ASEAN Center of Military Medicine opens in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 7 April 2016 (NNT) – The ASEAN Center of Military Medicine based on policy to promote stability and safety in the region today opens in Bangkok.

The ASEAN Center of Military Medicine is located on the fourth floor of the Army's Medical Department headquarters. Deputy Premier/Defense Minister Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, presided over the opening ceremony alongside ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh.

Commemerative remarks for the event were given by the ASEAN secretary general and the surgeon general of the Russian Ministry of Defense as co-chair of the Experts’ Working Group on Military Medicine.

Gen. Prawit, who announced the official opening of the center, said Thailand hopes that the ASEAN Center of Military Medicine will reflect the efforts to create a workable foundation for military medical cooperation and signify the desire to support regional stability and prosperity.

Huh?? What has that got to do with medicine?

Very appropriate perhaps to have a Military Medicine Centre in LoS considering the plans to ' enroll ' more and more people in AA ' courses '.

Maybe they will suggest to other ASEAN nations that they "take their medicine" and promptly implement junta rule in order to return happiness to the people...coffee1.gif

The country is becoming completely militarized.

Hub of beating your own soldiers to a pulp, and shooting your population perhaps?

Does Thailand have a NEED for a military medical center? Or perfaps a harbinger of things to come?

This might have come as a surprise to the thailand expert netizens sitting at their Nana or Pattaya bar stool, but there is quite alot of foriegn and Thai investment in research into tropical diseases and all sorts of other medical research. The U.S. military is here in a big way in that capacity so a centre like this would make alot of sense in that context.

They presumably need this so they can treat the conscripts who get brutalised on a regular basis. I expect it will be big on treatment of mental illness if the public pronouncements of the top brass are to be taken into consideration.

Just trying to understand what they mean by military medicine? How does that differ from, say, non military medicine?

Might as well prepare for THAT war with China in 20 years time. gigglem.gif

The prognosis is less certain

Well at least your keeping your post count up.

This may come as a shock to you but if you don't post for a week, month, even a year, your post count doesn't actually fall.

Rad, right???

Just trying to understand what they mean by military medicine? How does that differ from, say, non military medicine?

It differs very significantly ! It is a complex issue which I doubt you would understand !

Many lives have been saved as a result of techniques developed within "military medicine" being transferred to "non military medicine"

People who are ill informed should, perhaps, begin their research by reviewing old episodes of "MASH" then move on and research the contributions made by people such as Archibald McIndoe . https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archibald_McIndoe

There are many more examples !
