SGD
Students do this in the UK, nowt to be ashamed of, especially not here in the land of gash for cash. This is just the tip of the iceberg and it is something to be ashamed of. How can it ever be acceptable that students are becoming prostitutes to pay for their education? And what about the people that are pimping them out under the guise as an agency? These girls are suppose to be attending university to earn degrees for their future careers and then working their way up to success, otherwise if they prefer to earn money by laying on their backs, then what`s the point of attending University? They may just as well graduate from school and go straight into the bars or become escorts. Sorry, but this can never be acceptable. Women the world over choose to chase easy money selling their bodies to guys who have money. A footballer's wife stays with him despite his multiple flings with prostitutes - is she not just a legalised hooker herself ? 23 year old model dates fat balding 65 year old man - is she not just a paid girlfriend ? Girl in bar offers sex for money - we all agree she is a hooker Student wants a new mobile phone but doesn't want to work as a waitress for pennies - so she sells herself online. All making the same decision to use their body for material gain, Nothing new here. Move along.

So you are advocating that high level education for a better career should only be available for those from wealthy and elite families who can afford it hmm ?? That is unacceptable my friend and why ALL education in ALL countries should be state run and for vocational education supplied totally free for all based ONLY on each student's ability and their willingness to put in the effort learn. With the current system here, and in the US, UK and many western countries too, you are restricting the much needed and fair striving for social mobility and giving little or no opportunity to those not from the privileged and elite families. That in my considered opinion is unacceptable, immoral and completely unfair, irrespective of any political doctrines. Of course those girls do not want a life as a bar girl and are trying to better themselves so if they can only afford to do so by selling sex (which they may even enjoy as quite a few I am sure do) then all credit to them IMHO. Time prostitution was fully legalised between consenting adults but the pimps and crap a'holes who steal form these girls should be aggressively arrested and locked up for a long time. If prostitution was properly and sensibly legalised then you would probably not need these protectionist pimps and other associated leeching low life. Even in Thailand students if they work hard at school and qualify with certain degrees after graduating from high school can obtain student loans to attend Universities. Once they finish University it means they have to work and pay off the loan. This is how it should be done for the students that are ambitious and determined to work hard and serious about making achievements in their lives. There are certain places where men can hire prostitutes, and these should not be associated with educational institutions, and Universities should not become synonymous with prostitution, otherwise the whole higher education system loses credibility and gains a bad reputation that makes the whole deal of earning degrees seem cheap and goes against the whole educational establishment. These days there are no excuses for women to become prostitutes, the one`s that do are not prime higher educational material because they are lazy, looking to fast track their ways forward and doubt they will amount to anything. As I said; they may just as well graduate from high school and go straight into bar work or become escorts, that I guess most of them will do anyway. thaiduncankk
I'd be interested to know under which article of Law they will be prosecuted. "selling sex" isn't in itself an offense as far as I know, maybe using the internet to do so or to advertise is a crime under computer law or the fact that they were part of an organized network will be held against them. Maybe advertising the service in LINE is considered lewd under the Law. I'd be interested to know more about the exact charges. Soliciting is illegal. Which is offering money for sex, the girls are offering sex for money, that ain't soliciting and that ain't a crime in Thailand as far as I know, but I could be wrong. When a prostitute tries to entice customers, offering sexual favours, SHE is soliciting.
chrisinth
I can't help feeling that that this is entrapment the way the police have acted. It was them that suggested payment of 8,000 baht (according to the OP) and not the girls asking for payment. With the promised money, who is to say that any 'escort' wouldn't be tempted by it? Of course, 99% sure that is not what this is about, but it is literal. Unfortunately the majority of the law now-a-days is not about justice par se, but addressed through literal translation of the laws of the constitution. chrisinth
If the website is to remain running (and only the ladies in question prosecuted) the membership will rise by 10-fold. Bad publicity is still publicity. These services have been in existence for decades now, after the publicity of this article, many more thousands of people will be aware of their availability. Sometimes the authorities, by making the public aware through press releases of a relatively minor offence like this one actually increase usage of the very thing they are apparently fighting against. Not just Thailand, but amazing none the less...................
manarak
When a prostitute tries to entice customers, offering sexual favours, SHE is soliciting.well, Thai law doesn't outlaw solicitation unless done in an "open and shameless manner that causes a nuisance to the public". Therefore I am interested to know which exact article of law will apply to the girls.

It might likely be thrown out of court, if the prosecutor ever were to admit it. The point seems to be police is seen as doing something, hoping to deter others... rather than secure convictions. Whether this is an effective measure is a different question.

Yep, understand that LINE was the front app. I also hold my hand up to not knowing how 'groups' on LINE work. With them having a membership database, i was thinking old school that they would have a site as a more stable platform for that database. Of course, that data could just be on a spreadsheet in the cloud somewhere........................

Obviously he means the website / agency 'Be Model' that recruited the girls and set up the members only service, which then used Line to connect girls to customers. tukadadoll
Girls selling sex, in Bangkok? Say it isn't so, not here in the land of high moral values. 8000 baht a head? Wow, must have some very hi-so customers. Think I'll pop into Soi Cowboy tonight to watch some neked girls with my 160 baht small beer. I can also check what's on the menu for take out. at 8000 baht they won't be catering to faring, maybe some 3 star generals!
