PHUKET: -- Motorists heading for Kathu and Patong from the bypass road can now turn right at the Samkong intersection, following the preliminary opening of the new underpass on Sunday.

However, motorists heading north from Central Festival and wishing to make the turn to Kathu cannot turn left at the intersection, as access is blocked while construction on the underpass continues.

All vehicles, including motorcycles, must first drive through the northbound underpass before making a u-turn on the bypass road in order to head back towards the Samkong intersection, where they can then turn right for Kathu.

its not such a bad idea. most traffic south bound happens from people doing uturns in front of central going to patong (and people trying to cut in front 3-4 lanes wide) while people northbound going patong usualy turn at central but people going north use the left lane and block people coming from patong and create traffic when both try to merge at the same time. This should really help.. can't believe they thought of that, maybe they tried to make it worse and by mistake made it better?
