Baby backhoe, hire costs? Northern BKK

It's actually too late but thought I'd ask anyway.

Wifey is having a small medium large garden pond dug for some koi she has been given.

The locals are digging it out by hand, I did originally suggest getting one of the mini-digger beasties in, it would only take an hour, but I was pooh-poohed "cannot hire for 1 hour".

Assuming the minimum hire is half a day what sort of numbers would we be looking at?

The guys have spent the last two days converting part of the garden into a mud wallow. OK not a massive cost but I was hoping to be on the way to placing concrete by now :(

In the UK I could get one for a day with a driver for 8,700 Baht all in. https://www.gumtree.com/p/landscaping-gardening-services/paulys-mini-digger-hire-%C2%A3175-a-day-inc-delivery-fuel-driver-concrete-breaking-option-fully-insured/1151986840

I already have a laser-level to check that the water level tube is correct smile.png

I have many t-shirts smile.png

Finally the canal they digged went up, the land went down, but the canal went up. So no water was released

Thai water is different. You should know that by now, you had farang water!

Are you going to lob it, what you have dug out, over the wall and into the river ... Thaiway ...

I have to say ... looking at the pic ... what a mess

Tell some locals you think Japanese gold bullion from WWII might be buried in your yard and you plan to have it checked out soon...the next morning you'll have plenty of holes for koi ponds.

Too unbelievable.

Say winning lottery numbers.

There are a few places with such machinery along both sides of Viphawadee, just past DM airport going outbound. No idea of how much.

The spoil (and there is a lot of it, about 10m3) is mostly being used to fill in around the wall where the original fill has shrunk / subsided.

The pond will have a raised rim (30-40 cm) to keep flood water out which should absorb the rest of the spoil..

All good muddy fun smile.png

We will definitely not be building an in-ground swimming pool.

Very useful, unlike most other replies! thumbsup.gif

Would they have backhoes with pneumatic attachments for demolition jobs?

Seems too good to be true this offer!

Hard to believe you could find anything vaguely close to match this offer here.

Would you mind telling the approximate figure you spend for the locals digging the pond?

I've seen the plant hire places out north of Rangsit (they're not actually far from us), they seem to have everything you could want smile.png I never got chance to find out prices sad.png

Big place here 14.046393, 100.617485 Street View will give you an idea what they have, can't see a phone number mind sad.png

The boys (3) dug out 95% of the hole in 2 days, we pay them 500 each a day and feed and water (beer) them too (they like Wifey's cooking and my beer). All are from the village so keeping them sweet is advantageous (I wouldn't pay normal outside labour that much).

Hope to be placing concrete soon.

EDIT Found several Thai plant-hire places on the net, this is the only one where I could see prices http://www.thailandhouseplans.com/tool-a-machinery-hire 4,000 Baht a day for a midi (3 ton) backhoe, I assume that's plus fuel, transport, operator.

Others, could be useful ;-
