PM Prayut shows appreciation for Thailand’s new badminton world champion

BANGKOK, 18 April 2016 (NNT) - The Prime Minister has shown appreciation to the success of Thailand’s badminton champion who has just risen to the world’s top-ranked player.

Spokesman of the Prime Minister’s Office Maj. Gen. Sansern Kaewkumnerd said that Prime Minister Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha appreciated the success of Ratchanok Intanon for her triumph at the latest tournament, which has catapulted her to be the world’s No. 1 badminton player.

Maj. Gen. Sansern said that Ms. Ratchanok’s rise has brought all Thais immense delight and honor to both herself and Thailand.

He added that PM Prayut has also thanked all coaches, trainers and the family of Ms. Ratchanok for supporting her along the way to this success.

In addition, the PM has urged Thai people to show their support for the country’s badminton players, who will participate in the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro Brazil during August 5-21.

Congratulations to Ratchanok, but I don't envy the pressure she must now be under. Thailand loves people who are number one, but I suspect the poor girl will be largely ignored if she has the temerity to come home from Rio with "only" a silver or bronze.

Congratulations to the young lass.

The people of Yasothorn will be proud.

She will be highly praised I am sure. There is not much achievement her as it is. The past has also shown that many sports athletes got into trouble and even banned because of actions common to Thais. So, with hope, this persons achievements are well deserved and will be rewarded in kind.

Anything to take people's minds off of Thailand's songkran death rate and the severe drought happening.

Perhaps he should also point out that she achieved her success through hard work, training and honesty, instead of using family ties, cheating and brutality.

I'll let the other readers/contributors point out the irony of the PM promoting success through honesty and fairness.

Surely the headline should be along the lines of,

"Ratchanok Wins Three in a Row to Claim World's No.1 Badminton Ranking."

Without mentioning the name of someone who I am certainly not going to mention.

The Chinese women players have really taken a bad slide in achievements last few years. The dominant years whereby woman champs like Zhang Ning and Goa Ling have passed and other countries like Thailand, Spain, Indonesia and India have good women players and giving the Chinese a good fight. Ratchanok remind me of a very good Indonesia player Susi Susanti. Good defense, patience and intelligent player like Ratchanok.

Hmm, natural talent, skill and quick reactions backed by determination, dedication and training.............similar qualities would make a good politician methinks. Unfortunately the ones here are not ranked in the top 100, let alone number one.

Prayuth can praise but not emulate.

It's self-evident that she achieved her success through hard work, training and honesty.

Using family ties, cheating and brutality was the way the Shinawatra clan ran the country for so long.

Very well done and good luck for the Olympics.

But, being pedantic, she is not the World Champion as the headline claims.

She is the world number one ranked player.

The current World Champion is Carolina Marin of Spain who won the women's singles in the last World Championships in August 2015.

Ratchanok is world ranked number one replacing Carolina.
