VillageFarang...Daily life in Thailand and what I see

Featured Replies

Thank you for sharing, great shots and some beautiful scenery. Chiang Rai was on my list of places to visit, after seeing your photographs it has just moved up to the top of the list.

This is my view from the house, at least part of the year, but it is an ever-changing view.

I am not a morning person so I don’t see many sunrises but I seldom miss a sunset. Walking the dogs at sunset, some days are more dramatic than others, but it is always a highpoint of my day.

Our nearest river is the Ing, maybe 2 km away and the bike is one of my favorite modes of transportation in this area.

It was raining when I got up and remained cloudy for a while but it ended up being a great day for a bike ride.

My lovely wife had the bright idea to go for a drive along the Mekong River today. We stopped at a cute little coffee shop on the side of the road.

Later we drove up a very steep road on the mountain above the coffee shop on the recommendation of the shop owner. Beautiful views of the Mekong looking back toward Chiang Khong.

One more shot next to the river, in front of the coffee shop.

I am watching this guy grow several inches per day. It is now up to the roof so I may have to find a way up on to the roof to take a picture when it finally blooms.

This is the second time I have seen this cactus bloom recently. The flowers don't last very long so you have to catch them in the morning.

I was up at our local reservoir again today and thought I may as well take a couple of pictures.

These are two shots taken a few months apart but at the same location. I put up with the first view so I can enjoy the last one.

I've photographed this location myself. I'd post pics, but I don't wish to hijack your thread.

@VF I've viewed your thread but haven't clicked the like button on each post, but I will say in words instead, I like your photos and what a lovely place/area you live in.

Also please let T-Roa post his shot in that area if you will, you know the score, theres no competing here

Peace...and when can I move in? biggrin.png

Photographically our reservoir is different everyday so it would be interesting to see what you saw. I am also a little surprised that anyone else has been there as it is a very local sort of place.

To be honest I am not a fan of automatic likes. They kind of lose there meaning if one feels obligated to like everything. Thanks for this more personal note.wai.gif

Thanks, @villagefarang ...yes, it's certainly NOT on the beaten path, but I like to explore, haha! Actually, I found it on whilst looking for areas of dark sky around Chiang Rai (there aren't many). The first image I made when I first went to scout the location. I arrived around noon, so the light is awful, but I love those submerged trees! The second image was actually my first attempt at astro-photography, and I made a lot of mistakes. I'll have to go back as I think I'd make a better job of it now.

By the way, that glow on the horizon is light-pollution from the city of Chiang Rai some 35km distant. Luckily for you, it's almost imperceptible to the naked eye :-)

I wanted some exercise today but it was late and I didn’t feel sharp enough to be out on the bike, so I went for a walk. It was extremely hot but just too beautiful to stay indoors. Besides I absolutely love the clouds at this time of year.

Have you used a polarizer on them last 3 shots?

No polarizer, just shot them with my old NEX-6. I did cook them in Apple’s Photos on my iMac before serving them up, though.

Is that post mavericks? What OS are you using?

I am using OS X El Capitan (Beta) on a Retina 5K 27-inch display from late 2014.

Lots of activity in the fields these days. Everyone is rushing to get their rice planted and I am guessing they will be finished by the time our friends arrive on Monday. The feeding area for the birds is shrinking by the day. The open billed stork is so graceful in flight and I will miss seeing them everyday.

VF you posted a shot some years ago that was a total green landscape with a clay road running through it (you took it from the roadside)

Post that again please, was one of the most memorable shots I've seen on here.
