In this image distributed to reporters by the Pheu Thai Party, Watana Muangsook poses for a photo at an undisclosed location Monday prior to turning himself in to the military at the 11th Army Circle base in Bangkok.

BANGKOK — A former Pheu Thai MP turned himself in to the junta just before noon today for an “attitude adjustment” session but vowed to sue over illegal detention if he is not quickly released.

Just before arriving at the 11th Army Circle headquarters in Bangkok on Monday, Watana Muangsook wrote on Facebook that he will not agree to submit himself to arbitrary, illegal detention.

Naughty boy behave yourself, and do what the good/kind general wants.

Then every bodys happy.

I applaud you sir.

I hope your courage will inspire others.

Lets see if he's still defiant, after a session of attitude adjustment.

Agree. Its about time more stood up for their rights instead of just accepting the obvious self interest of the junta and cohorts.

The only restraint on the junta is the threat of exposure and accountability via the internet/media.

It must annoy the s**t out of them on a daily basis.

Watana threatens to sue all responsible if he is not freed by 3 pm today

BANGKOK: -- Former Pheu Thai MP Watana Muangsook turned himself in to the military at the11th military circle Monday morning as ordered by the National Council for Peace and Order for publicly announcing his rejection of the draft charter in the social media.

However, he said that he must be freed after 3 pm today claiming that the military has no power to keep him detained because he has not done anything wrong.

Posting a message in his Facebook page, Mr Watana said that he decided to report himself to the military after the NCPO changed plan from sending a military unit to escort him from his residence to asking him to report to the military at the 11th military circle.

He explained that if the military had to escort him from his house, they had to inform him about the charge against him and, therefore, they changed plan which would give an impression that he willingly turned himself in.

He said he had no choice but to report himself to the military otherwise he might be charged with defying the NCPO’s order. However, he maintained that his surrender to the military did not mean that he was willing to be detained because the NCPO has no right to keep him in custody.

Mr Watana threatened to sue all responsible for his detention if he was not released after 3 pm this afternoon.

The junta has an opportunity here to make him the next Nelson Mandela and snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

As he is a tough member of ptp I don't believe him to be a fighter for freedom. ptp never was

He is either acting on an agenda or a trickster gaming for another heavy financial award and trying to cause havoc to the country

Wattana Muangsook compared to Nelson Mandela (minus the years of imprisonment on Robben Island.)

Yingluck Shinawatra compared to Aung San Suu Kyi (minus the years of imprisonment at her Lake Inye home)

I start to see the connection here.whistling.gif A real stretch of the imagination indeed.

I admire Wattana for his stand in these times, but not quite the same as apartheid South Africa.

I agree if there is to be a change in the country it will never happen with the same old nonsense coming out of the same mouths that kept it in a constant state of fear. He obviously had a cash flow that got cut off and wants to return to it. In order for a change to occur we can not hang on to the same sources of disregard for the people. Some sacrifices must be made. If after the new government comes to power with the new constitution and it is not working then he can object.

Only a fool would listen to him now.

Isn't there a clause in the charter, that any actions or activities by the military before, during or after the coup is not punishable by any law.

That not exactly what it says but somethinglike that.

I am sure there is some very nasty print in his release papers.

He voiced an opinion on the charter, the junta pulls him in against his will for "Attitude adjustment". How the hell do you figure that he's "Trying to cause havoc in the country"?

The royally endorsed 2016 Interim Constitution succeeding the endorsed 2014 Interim Charter states in Section 44 that if it is necessary to prevent, disrupt or suppress any act that undermines public peace and order or national security, the NCPO chief (Gen Prayut) shall have the power to order any action regardless of the legislative, executive or judicial sectors.

Furthermore, Section 47–48 legitimizes all coup related actions done by the NCPO, by its subordinates or by the subordinates of its subordinates, as well as all orders and announcements issued by them.

How can this possibly be a reasonable thing to say, at this point?

Interesting these generic Westerner username folk with their double-barrel monikers like stamps of their authenticity who pop up to effervesce.

Wattana knows the US ambassador is watching this carefully.

Wattana knows the US ambassador is watching this carefully.

One would expect so, plus the ambassadors of the rest of the world's democratic nations.

Seems to be a lot of "Fox Views" mentality here...

It appears some woundn't know an autocratic or a fascist regime even if it was set on a plate before them.

The same leaders who always throw any muscle they have behind the 'wrong uns'..... namely the PTP in this case.

Anyway, what the hell are the USA going to do about anything?.... all their global respect is gone.

Courageous man. Respect.

This Junta regime is making Thailand,s Democratic election process look more and more like the military rule in China. No freedom to speak or assemble. Watana is no angel but he still has rights that no Thai politician or no Thai should never be taken away. A government by the people and for the people!
