BANGKOK: -- The use of e-auction or e-bidding for procurement deals by governmental agencies since last October until March this year has saved the government about 28.7 billion baht in spending.

Comptroller General’s Department head Mr Manas Jamweha said the government had set aside 272 billion baht budget for 28,700 procurement projects during the last October-March this year but actual spending via e-bidding amounted to 243 billion baht.

This means 28.7 billion baht or 10.55 percent of the budget have been saved, said Mr Manas.

As for e-marketing for procurement deal which is capped at 200,000 baht such as the purchase of stationery, he said that the procurement method has helped saved 50 million baht from 255 million baht set budget or 18.35 percent for 143 procurement deals.

He praised the e-bidding and e-market procurement methods for not only saving the state of spending but also improving the efficiency in budgetary spending and procurement transparency.

So a 10% savings when it is generally accepted there is a 35% corruption cost/tax in Thailand.

A start I guess but still a long way to go. (That is if the figures are to be believed.) whistling.gif

Simple minded analysis, attributes cost savings to e-bidding, just because winning bids were below the budget. In the absence of more compelling evidence, this is wishful thinking. (And I greatly favor electronic procurement systems)
