Koh Samet

Featured Replies

Thinking of going to Koh Samet for a week at the start of June. Any recommendations for accomodation? 2 adults and a 4 year old child. Everything I have found on Agoda etc minimum 1500B and does not look worth the money. Any suggestions gratefully received. Thanks

The decent places to stay on Samet are no longer cheap.

When the little GH's where kids we used to go to Samet almost every weekend through the winter months, our favourite places to stay where Samet Villa and Tubtim, then Tubtim Bungalows now Tubtim Resort.

I still recumbent Tubtim especially with a young child as the sea in the Tubtim bay shelves very gently, and the sand is as good as you'll find most anywhere.

But it's going to cost you more than the Bht280 per night I have written in the margins of my early 90s LP guide.

Tub Tim was 600 Baht in 2007

2007 ay, well. that should give him something to go by.

Many good places right on White Sand Beach.

Lots of sand flies, very bitey. You can't let the kid play on the beach.

Did they clean all the oil off?

It was nice in 2010 (apart from the sand flies).

Malibu

Reasonable air-con huts (500bht/night), nice sloping sand into the sea, hardly anyone staying overnight during the week.

Weekends, very crowded, and much more expensive.

Seemed to be just me and a gf staying in the resort.

A photo from a normal week day afternoon ....... beach completely empty.

Sunbeds ......... mainly empty, couple of day trippers.

Restaurant at night .......... nearly empty.

The same month I was in Pattaya and Koh San Road, BK.

They were heaving with western tourists, could hardly push through the crowds.

When i was there in 73, there was a great little place, near the pier, only 50bht a night, check that place out.

You should try Ao Lung Dum beach. It's so nice there. The hotel name is Jelly Fish, it's the same price as you found on Agoda.

I have been there for 3 days and 2 nights smile.png was so cool.

Have fun.

Just came home from 4 days at Samed Villa. Stayed there many times over the years and I think it is great for the price. http://samedvilla.com/individual.php?l=default&n=2&ai=all

We stayed in one of the more expensive bungalows, but the cheaper ones are good too (just not a sea view).

Nice breakfast included. Good restaurant. Clean beach. Safe for the kids.

Stayed 2 days a week ago... and i will never go there again. Such a overhyped pointless tourist trap.
