cooked
Is linen cultivated in Thailand? If not, does anyone know where it is imported from? There are a few places where it is woven around Bangkok. I do mean Linen and not hemp or cotton. Thanks.
dddave
Linen is derived from the flax plant, the process of making linen has many steps and is labor intensive. Flax is grown extensively in India but I don't know about SE Asia.
Speedo1968
I understand that MANY years ago there used to be a flax factory not far from Banphai ( 45 Km south of Khon Kaen ). It was managed by an Indian gentleman who had / has been living here for many years. It is of course now closed. No idea why. Sorry cant help with details of another working factory in Thailand. dddave
A bit hokey but this shows how much work was involved in making linen.
cooked
A bit hokey but this shows how much work was involved in making linen. Thanks. I have made linen cloth in the traditional way and I don't want to do it again. I am asking because I have recently sourced relatively cheap linen products in Bangkok and Northern Thailand and was wondering where the linen came from. jaapfries
Wow; I had no idea how incredibly 'Labor-Intensive' this was . . . . . . Thank you for sharing this !
