Boaty McBoatface, meet Donald J. Trump, er, or Adolf Hitler Elementary School

Chris Zappone

AUSTIN: - After a school board in the city of Austin, Texas, decided to change the name of a primary school from a Confederate hero, it asked the public to make suggestions.

The name of the controversial Republican front runner, Donald Trump, was the most popular suggestion.

But Trump was not the most controversial.

Adolf Hitler, as in the "Adolf Hitler School for Friendship and Tolerance", was among the most snarky and controversial suggestion.

But even that was not the most offensive.

Maybe all the silly suggestions are because the vast majority of the public don't really take this seriously? I'm not suggesting they should.

That said, Gen. Robert E. Lee, leader of the Confederate Army against the North still has schools named after him 150 years after defeat. Do any other countries bestow similar honors on those who try to tear the country apart?

"Do any other countries bestow similar honors on those who try to tear the country apart?"

There are some who want to do just that, by putting the divisive, Bloviator Trump in the Whitehouse. laugh.png

Well, maybe not a lot of schools named for him, but there are a number of statues of Oliver Cromwell located throughout the UK, including one in front of Parliament, I believe. They did name a WWII tank after him as well.

Obviously that ship is not going to be named Boaty McBoatface.

But at the very least they should put a plaque somewhere on the ship honoring the people's choice.

I think internet naming contests are going to be less of a thing now.

Adolf Hitler, as in the "Adolf Hitler School for Friendship and Tolerance", was among the most snarky and controversial suggestion.
Calls to name the school after the Führer were the 7th most popular out of the nominations

Had this happened in Thailand we'd be pages of comments about the failure of Thai education and that a lack of extra-territorial historical awareness was a cultural deficiency.

Yes, it would and rightly so.

I think there must be loads of forums or blogs in the US filled with just that as well now.

However, Texans have a reputation to uphold for ignorance and for being not among the most clever citizens of the US.

A bunch of dummies. They should have given the public a long list of 8-10 names and the

reasons for each name. The public would choose for that list. A naming contest that goes

viral with a ridiculous, meaningless name just shows the incompetence of the name

selection group. blink.png

Names and honors don't mean anything, Fritz Haber, inventor of the process to make mustard gas and who tested it himself on the battle field in North Africa killing 5000 people at his 1st try, was later honoured with a Nobel Prize that still stands... and do we really know how many percent of history is actually what happened, and of course we don't know the extend of what we don't know... so why all the fuss about naming a school...

They can name it Saddam Hussein or Muhamar Kadhafi schools for american retards if they feel like honouring real heros.

Perhaps the school should be appropriately named, for those Texan values mentioned above, The school of the Bush Sr. & Jr. repository of the New World Order Rex Mundi, Inc."

How about the "Klu Klux Klindergarten" giggle.gif

Takes time to re-educate a defeated populace. Couldn't just send them all to re-education camps for correct thinking.

Why not ? Ask Trump

Trump names everything after himself, so it will be United States of Trump, and Trump House!
