Yes and I would be more concerned over worrying about events beyond your control.

Thanks, I sent the staff out and am wearing the diapers on my head, it serves 2 purposes, 1st it protects my head and 2nd as I usually talk crap it should also help with that

It is because we take so much oil and coal from the ground it leaves a void and will eventually collapse in on it self.

Sink holes occur everywhere and anywhere and have done so throughout Geological History.

They are generally a result of subsurface erosion - in the recent case (the video was from China I believe), the road construction is very poor, it is unlikely that groundwater was diverted.

We are seeing more of these issues for the following reasons:

1) We are covering more of the planet, changing subsurface water patterns - simple increased probability

2) Increased population - we need more land to live on, we will see more of these events - simple increased probability

3) Social Media - records more of these events

4) Poorer / Cheaper construction, bypassing regulations in developing nations

5) Reduction of Cost vs Risk involved in construction & Design.
