April 26, 201610 yr My girl wants to learn some cooking and food skills and is looking for a course. Any idea of places that are suitable for local Thais? My Thai friend told me she studied at hotel and catering school which was part of a university. The course lasted for a year and was about 20,000thb. So looking for something similar to this, rather than the cooking classes aimed at tourists.
April 26, 201610 yr Well funny that she can't check out the Technical college herself and get the details. Or of course simply look for a job in a restaurant. Or even buy a cookery book and start experimenting. Nope let's get the farang to ask his pals on Thaivisa...that will get the most informative replies!
April 27, 201610 yr Author Yes, I was being pro-active and thought somebody might have experience of it instead of a sarcastic reply.

April 27, 201610 yr If the girl knows what she wants to do then she should be capable of searching for her own opportunities. I doubt you will find many people here who can assist ! However, you might like to direct the girl here https://www.cordonbleu.edu/thailand/admissions/en

The silence is deafening ! I searched for this thread for the same reasons as the OP ! The better (?) half wants to take some cooking courses, preferably for baking. We've been searching for a school in the Pattaya area and of course I thought, why not ask the experts ! Generally speaking, ThaiVisa has always been the #1 source for expats to find something in Thailand because (generally) there's always members who've "been there, done that" and have the beer belly (or t-shirt) to prove it ! Need a plumber in Pai ? A car rental in Roi-et ? A Chicken in Chanthaburi ? Someone on TV probably has the answers ! Meanwhile the g/f has found one place in Nakluea (Sarnsilp - http://www.sarnsilpcuisine.com/contact.php) - the bakery course is 90 hours and the tuition is about 15,000 baht. Another place in Chon Buri (Kruouan - http://www.kruouan.com/) Though it seems that one just tells you how to bake 2-3 things for a 2-3,000 baht fee. Or how to bake 2-3 other things for a 2-3,000 baht fee. (As opposed to a full blown course complete with certificate.) And one in Pattaya on soi Khao Noi (Boonsamphan actually, near the railway crossing) - (Pattaya Cookery School - http://www.pattayacookingschool.com/) - looks like their Bakery course is also about 90 hours and the tuition is nearly 20,000 for that program. (The "Practical Thai Cookery" for foreigners course runs 30 hours and costs 19,000 baht, while the "Professional Thai Cookery" course (for Thais) runs 240 hours and costs 27,000 baht.) We'll check out the ones in Pattaya to see what they are like and go from there. Might even come back to this thread and pass on the results ! Or not.
