Army satisfied with this year's draft

BANGKOK, 29 April 2016 (NNT) - The Royal Thai Army has reported that this year’s draft proceeded smoothly and thanked many organizations for their cooperation. More than 47,000 Thai men volunteered to join military service.

Army Deputy Spokesperson Col. Sirichan Nga-thong said the army would like to extend thanks to all Thai men who had participated in the draft as well as provincial administrations, district offices and village headmen.

This year, around 514,000 Thai men were called to report—101,000 of them will be drafted. The number of volunteers this year is higher than 2015.

The deputy spokesperson said those who missed this year’s conscription screening were subject to legal actions. She suggested that they immediately contact recruiting officers in their districts.

This is indeed uplifting news , there is now an extra 101,000 potential UNi students that are not walking the corridors of learning, so in a 2 year rotation you have a Potential of 200,000 not doing or struggling to do Uni , whatever happened to Prayut's 300,000 extra students , 47,000 regulars could be under cover agents for the students, so the military should get even more paranoid and keep a eye on this crowd of new comers, besides that, the Generals don't want them, ( not any one that doesn't want to be there ), a complete waste of time, money and resource to the country, and all they have achieved is to stuff around up those who wish to learn..................................................coffee1.gif

Thus taking care of potential unemployment.

I would like to see what the number of volunteers would be if there were no draft. The military's deployment is static and, except for a small contingent deployed to assist fighting ISIL and Hussein, hasn't needed to expand its ranks since its 1932 overthrow of the King.

Prayut's 300,000 extra students

They're already in the Army Reserve under Lt-General Werachai Indusobhana, commander of the Territorial Defence Command.

They will be mobilized at the appropriate time to help explain (as taught by the Army) the draft constitution and the drafting process to their families and communities ahead of the scheduled referendum.
