I think, most old people smell bad for other reasons than just poor hygiene or changed skin oils. Very often, the smell is quite typical, and can be put in three groups: people with liver problems smell like ammonia, people with kidney problems smell like urine and old fish and diabetic people smell like acetone. I fell, for a good time, in the kidney problems category, and it was actually not pretty, while all the time thinking that my wife was a bit of a drama queen (she called it "horrible to the point of wanting to die when I am in the room", make of that what you will). Sometimes, all this can be reversed with an improved diet, getting rid of those extra kilos, drinking enough, and not stressing and poisoning the body on a regular basis (yes, I am talking about alcohol, especially in an dehydrated oldy). With medical intervention for my kidney, the smell has reduced to the normal smell of "unwashed farang", or so I am told. With regard to nonenal excretion; I do not suffer from it (yet?), but from what I heard, CoQ10 (every person should take this, anyway), and anti-oxidant supplements like astaxanthin or fucoxanthin help (they accumulate in the skin, preventing lipid breakdown there). This is the supplementation from the inside, topical help from the outside would be the persimmon topical mentioned in the OP, or one with green tea, or a combination of both would also help.
