PM shuns peace dialogue with separatist groups

BANGKOK: Informal peace talks between the government and southern separatist groups under the umbrella organization of Mara Patani has been dealt with a big blow after Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha made it clear that the government will not talk with any organization or group which still resorts to armed rebellion and does not respect the law.

Commerce minister optimistic Thai exports will not be affected by USTR’s decision

BANGKOK: The United States Trade Office’s decision to retain Thailand in the priority watch list (PWL) for the 9th consecutive year this year are unlikely to impact on Thai exports to the US and its access to generalized system of preference (GSP), said Commerce Minister Apiradee Tantraporn on Friday.

South African court paves way for Zuma to face renewed corruption charges

The United Nations appeals to save the truce and negotiations in Syria

Norway oil-rig helicopter crash kills 13; flying ban issued

Fisherman’s body found after it floated from the bottom of reservoir

SURAT THANI: Rescue workers this morning found the decomposed body of Mr Prachit Saisema, the fisherman who went missing for seven days after his boat collided with a tourist boat in the Ratchaprapa reservoir in Surat Thani.

Navy commander sentenced to 78 months in bribery scandal

SAN DIEGO (AP) — A Navy commander who fled Cambodia's killing fields as a boy to grow up to become a decorated U.S. military officer was sentenced Friday to 78 months in prison for providing classified ship schedules in exchange for the services of prostitutes, theater tickets and other gifts from a Malaysian defense contractor.
