Presentation of sustainable development enhances Thailand’s role at global stage, says MFA

BANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) – The presentation on sustainable development principles has helped promote Thailand’s role on the international stage amongst several countries interested in adopting the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, says the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Don Pramudwinai, has said the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) held in Beijing, China had concluded on 28 April 2016. The outcome of the conference has been satisfactory.

He has said the conference allowed Thailand to present ideas for sustainable development for enhanced economic stability, which goes hand-in-hand with the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy. It was well received with high interest from several participating countries.

On this occasion, China has commented the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy can help create confidence among countries, while this conference has enhanced Thailand’s role on an international stage, including its position as the G77 Chair, and the ASEAN-Europe coordinator.

The CICA meeting in Beijing, China, took place on 27-28 April 2016, and was participated by 26 countries in the Asian region.

It's Monday morning and time for the weekly dose of NNT "news" items.

Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia. A grand name for yet another International Wafflefeste where there are never any outcomes other than the side-effects of gluttony, hangovers and late nights.

Enhances Thailand's role on the global stage? Maybe, right behind the rest of the Thai players....sustainable slavery, sustainable murder, sustainable coups.

I hear they will be addressing a Global Conference on the topic of "Effective Water Resources Management" next, before going on to the Conference where a Thai representative will make the keynote speech about "Prudent Governmental Intervention in Agriculture" using the rice and rubber as the main examples.

Unfortunately their invitation to speak at the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy has been withdrawn with a spokesman for the conference stating that was beyond a joke and wouldn't be funny.

We would have to stretch our imaginations to their furthest reaches, to even consider Thailand engaging in anything sustainable, on any level, much less leading the region in sustainability. There are few nations in the world that are presently doing less, to create a sustainable economy or environment. Few are doing less to implement alternative energy programs, green construction and industry, waste water recycling, rooftop gardens, viable, and affordable insulation programs for new construction, etc. etc. For this hooligan and fool to even mention this at the conference is disingenuous at best, and criminal at worst. Talk about projecting a false image to the world. Wow. What can one even say?

Thailand is decades behind the rest of the world when it comes to environmentally sustainable policy, at the national level. These kinds of programs require vision, intelligence, concern for the future of the country, and the willingness to set aside a budget for that which you cannot see, touch, or feel, at the present moment.

I could site dozens of examples of this, but rather than just bore you to death, I will leave it at that.
