British couple vows to return to Hua Hin despite brutal attack

HUA HIN: -- Prime Minister’s Office Minister Panadda Diskul today visited an elderly British couple at Bangkok hospital in Hua Hin.

The couple, Mr Lewis Owen and Mrs Rosemary Owen, and their son were badly beaten up by four Thai men on Songkran day at Hua Hin market after their son accidentally bumped one of the assailants.

The brutal attack became headline news in British media and it has badly affected the image of Thailand.

M.L. Panadda was accompanied by Prachuab Khiri Khan governor Thawee Narissirikul, Hua Hin mayor Nopporn Wutthikul, Hua Hin police superintendent Pol Col Chaiyakorn Sriladecho and a representative from the British embassy during the visit.

The minister expressed regret for the incident and apologised to the couple. The couple said they love Hua Hin and vowed to return.

The couple was due to testify before the court this afternoon before they are to leave Thailand for Britain tomorrow.

no I wasn't saying that, I meant true Thailand, enjoying a holiday without being assaulted, they were just in wrong place at the wrong time

as most of us know, these incidents do rarely happened to innocent tourists

I love Hua Hin and yes I do live in Isaan hahaha cheers

I wonder what was in that gift box.

Maybe a round trip ticket back to thailand, a wad of cash, hotel reservations...and a gun?

The actual original article reads like this:-

"The minister expressed regret for the incident and asked for an apology from the couple. The couple said they love Hua Hin and vowed to return"

It says that the minister expressed regret at the incident and asked for an apology from the couple.

An apology for what exactly?
For being in the wrong street at the wrong time, and allowing themselves to be caught on CCTV while receiving their kicking, and thus further damaging the reputation of the tourism industry. Obviously a very badly worded misprint, I hope?

Obviously someone at TVN has realised the error in their relaying of the article and corrected it.

Coming on holiday to Thailand and having to go through there ordeal and all the unwanted exposure in the worlds press must of been a very harrowing experience for them and there familys.

I hope the Thai government do take care of them and treat them to an all expenses paid holiday on behalf of the TAT,it is the least they deserve fortunately the bad publicity this has created may change things for a little while, but in reality gang attacks on foriegners is definately on the increase.

Thankfully all government agencies have got involved and the Thai government should be applauded for that.

What changes?

We were told that the case was being 'hurried along' to ensure the tourists could give evidence before they left - but I haven't read about any court case happening at which they gave evidence.

Oh, look!

A 100B handful of flowers and some cheesy gift from a representative of the illegal government. wai2.gifwai.gif

After three guests in their country were left for dead on a filthy street. facepalm.gif

"The politician conveyed the prime minister’s “concern and regards” to the couple, and presented them with a jasmine garland to express the country’s condolences."

"Thai authorities will hope the gesture proves more effective than a previous attempt, in which members of Thailand’s tourist board posed with Mrs Owen at her hospital bed to express support,

but only succeeded in drawing more attention to the gravity of her injuries." thumbsup.gif

Where did you get that info from? If untrue the authorities would be very interested in your claim. Good luck.

What happened to the couple on that Hua Hin soi will be nothing like the mauling they get from the Fleet Street hyenas upon their return to Heathrow.

I dare say that their 15 minutes of fame will be extended somewhat by a tidy little exclusive tell-all deal £ £ £ £

All this pageantry with staged photos of politicians handing them flowers is such fabricated nonsense. If the video hadn't gone public they would have swept it under the carpet as quietly as possible. "Thainess" includes not giving a sh*t about harm to "outsiders" unless it concerns loss of face. If anything it should be the attackers grovelling at the victims feet begging forgiveness.

I see 74 posts. NEW here eh? Cant read the news over the past umpteen years. So lets go 3 years. I am what you could say NEW here but OMG I have seen so much in 3 or 4 years and I can read and not always here and I already know what you say comes from - the opposite to the head - end of the cow.

Cant read your embassy warnings on their websites?

Or maybe read OSTRICH style?

Thailand is not safe and has been getting worse over the past few years as tensions are rising for various reasons.

I thought the court cases had been hurried to ensure they happened before the tourists left blink.png .

V confusing.

My mistake, I gather from another thread on a different forum that the victims were planned to give evidence at 1.30 p.m. today.

So sentencing should also happen today or tomorrow.

It will nice to put this horrendous assault 'to bed', knowing that those who kicked defenseless people in the head are behind bars for a few years smile.png .

Pretty good reason why there's no news about any court case, there isn't going to be one!

I imagine some money has changed hands

I hope for sure it has as they deserve this. I work with elderly and I am sure there are many here can testify what I am saying is a regular occurrence with the seniors; (and did a lot more) as a GP. They become more afraid of mundane simple things we would never worry about.

This horrific ordeal would make them not afraid, not worried but I would go so far to say TERRIFIED and really worried about getting out safely. they would have read about the Junta and thought OH THIS IS THAIALND safe blah blah and then this. They would be ready to say anything to leave in one piece and not pieces.
