Cabinet orders merger of operation of Bangkok's two electric rail lines

BANGKOK, 4 May 2016 (NNT) - The Cabinet has finally made a decision to solve the problem of connections between the two electric rail lines in Bangkok.

Transport Minister Arkhom Termpittayapaisith said on Tuesday that the weekly Cabinet meeting has decided to make the operation of the Blue Line MRT extended rail service to the Tao Poon - Bang Sue station, which runs for one kilometer, a part of the Bang Sue-Tha Pra and Hua Lamphong-Bang Khae line, after negotiations with Bangkok Expressway and Metro Public Company Limited (BEM), which operates the MRT system, failed.

Mr. Arkhom said that he will suggest a meeting of the State Enterprise Policy Office - Public-Private Partnership, scheduled for next week, decide if the government should continue the negotiations with BEM, which is the current concessionaire or if a new auction should take place instead.
