No adult supervision resulting in another useless tragedy. RIP little one.

We lost a young relative a few years ago. At the reservoir with 8-10 of his uncles and family members. All of a sudden, the boy was gone. By the time they found him, he was gone. Heartbreaking. It only takes a short time.

No adult supervision is bad but as the post above says it's not a sure thing it only takes a few seconds for someone to drown

but if rescued in the first 3 min than can be resuscitated by someone who knows what to do.

So sad! But, this is not an isolated tragedy, according to the Thai Ministry of Health drowning is the leading cause of death for children (1-14) in Thailand. Over 1300 children die from drowning each year. A big part of the problem is that poor (and often middle class) children are not taught to swim. The Chiang Mai International Rotary Club is developing a program to work with public schools, and other community organizations to identify poor children who can not swim and can not afford swim instruction. We then offer them free instruction in a proven children's water safety and drowning prevention program. Our ultimate goal is to work with other Rotary Clubs and community organizations to identify swim teachers nationwide who want to help with this project and to then teach the teachers how to implement our Children's Water Safety and Drowning Prevention in their own communities. By the end of this year our program here in Chiang Mai with the help of Kru Payu Swim will have taught over 200 children basic water safety. Want to help? Contact me.
