BANGKOK: -- Thai Lion Air executives will have to answer to the Transport Ministry for allegedly selling airline tickets for flights to Myanmar before receiving approval to fly into the country.

The matter was brought to the attention of the Transport Ministry after receiving a complaint. The carrier recently ran a promotion for flights to Myanmar although it had not received permission from Myanmar’s aviation authorities to fly to the country. Tickets were being sold for flights starting on May 20.

Arkhom Termpittayapaisith, Transport Minister, said such practices are unacceptable and ordered the carrier to address the issue. Passengers who purchased tickets would also be notified of the situation.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand will also be investigating the issue, according to Chartchai Tipsunave, permanent secretary for transport. Thai Lion Air executives will be called in to give an explanation.

Sounds like a premature ejaculation on the

executives part, a marketing strategy that has a sticky end,

follow the rules, rules ! what rules !

nothing like getting a head start,

With probably a 10,000 baht or so penalty for doing so, the trick was and is well worth it.....

With the water shortage, it doesn't look like Lion Air will drown in any penalties imposed.

The problem arises if the airline isn't granted permission, inconveniencing passengers , good to see that someone in the transport Ministry is on the ball, as this sort of thing with the amount of flights in and out and promos in Thailand , could go un-noticed......................................coffee1.gif .

Well This is a nice start and good to see maybe JUST MAYBE some authorities are not open to corruption

Air Asia should be also, for including things in the ticket price that I cannot delete or refuse when booking online. After I say no to extra baggage, insurance and food, they add on a special promotion price that I cannot click no to.

Transport Minister ordered the carrier to address the issue and passengers who purchased tickets would be notified of the situation.

So no definitive action taken to correct the situation.

Why not order that all tickets be suspended until premission has been given?

But that might result in cancellations and/or compensation to ticketed passengers which would harm Thai Lion.

The moral of this is: never travel with Air Asia.

What else are false with this airline?

Surely the special promotion price is the fare, no? Otherwise, promotion for what? I've booked dozens of flights with Air Asia and not had a problem saying no to the add-ons, so obviously you are doing something wrong. The airline is a bit naughty in including luggage, insurance etc in the price and you have to search for the way to say no, Not always straightforward and you could easily pay for things you don't want.

I was unable to delete the 20 kg baggage levy on a return flight to KL. Tried several times without success. Is this a scam ?

You do not know what you are talking about. It happened to me yesterday. Also to a booking agency (Pantip Samui) who i approached . So maybe you were doing something wrong , from Air Asia's prospective !

After the page where you enter your personal details, you can edit the amount of checked baggage you require, so it's not a scam.

I preferred it when you could select 15kgs compared to now where the minimum for checked baggage on my recent flights has risen to 20kgs with a higher price.

Overall Air Asia remain a good deal when compared to other airlines if I compare prices for the routes I travel.

The moral of the story is to have a 7 year old help you make the booking.

He wrote that he said no to baggage etc (just click on the right thing in the drop down menu). He wrote that they added on a special promotion price. Again, I ask for what? That part makes no sense. Does anyone really believe that the #1 budget airline in the region would force anyone to buy something they didn't ask for and didn't want? Really? AGAIN, special promotion price for what?

If and when the Thai Lion Air execs are called in by the government to explain themselves, I believe their proper response will be:

Very sorry. We were drunk at the time. Mai bpen rai. Won't happen again. whistling.gif

Never had issues with airasia although they are a pain in the brass...im sure in Europe their dodgy website tricks would long be forbidden. And I think quite some people maybe add stuff they don't want but they don't force u if u know hoe to bypass their crapppp.
