The op is just another bad example of someone who wants to reside in another country but still receive the benefits the UK offer 'just in case'

Disgusts me

Why not?. He is on a retirement visa. He has probably paid into a superannuation fund for years and paid National Insurance. Did you do that? Plenty more things to be disgusted with, like you.

Yeah I pay plenty taxes in uk

You're obviously in the same boat as the op

You disgust me too

You have misread my post, I am not talking about how long I can stay here.

I have a retirement visa, and I know all about the 90 days rules...

I have not misread your post.

If you reside outside the UK for more than 90 days you are considered a non UK resident.

I had a problem a few years ago with the taxman, and was told you have been resident outside UK more than 90 days

you are now considered a non resident.

So a student taking a gap year, all of a sudden becomes a non UK resident at, say, 21 years of age ?

I don't think so.

Interesting thread

...... That will get less interesting as the day does on.

Thai Visa Rule 101 - never follow a thread after the second page

You need to be in the UK 6 months in a year to be a resident and have access to the NHS etc and have your pension increased. Just tell them nothing and never use the embassy for anything. The UK govt is not your friend.

This is true. I intend to do the same thing, but I am going to use my Son's address as my permanent home in the UK as far as the tax people are concerned. I will register with a local Dr and be on the Electoral Roll, I will use the address for my UK bank accounts, all this although I have no intention of returning to the UK unless I have to. Tell them nothing. If you need to renew a UK driving license or get a new passport, do it in and from the UK.

I bet that disgusts you too. If someone has paid into the tax system all his life why shouldn't he get the benefits he has paid for ?

Live in Spain and you get your yearly pension no problem along with many other countries. But if you live in Thailand we wont give you it.

Them's the rules.

Now the question to ask yourself is have you ever broken any rules ? If the answer is yes, best you keep your disgust for yourself and forget about what other people do.

Rocketboy, I have to agree with a lot of the censure aimed at you. I consider myself to be a law-abiding person. As such I declared my intention to become an ex-pat. My state pension has been frozen now for 8 years. After working for 40 years paying taxes & NI I think I've done enough to warrant a cost of living rise periodically and free health care in the event of a medical emergency. The UK Government want you to play fair but they still tax you on money (pension) earned in UK despite you living in Thailand.

If I had my time to go over again I would not be so honest and yes I know a number of residents here who still receive Winter fuel allowance and good luck to them.

For information, I have not yet reached state pension age, I am four years away, so those benefits I am supposedly stealing don't yet apply.

Furthermore I am still paying voluntary N.I even though I have been here a year. My understanding is I no longer HAVE to pay them as I have paid since I started work at 15, with no work breaks.

So rather than stealing, I am still giving to a system I may never use again.

Medical issues I have are being attending to at a private hospital here, I am not jumping on a plane and heading back to get it free.

If my actions makes me disgusting, then guilty as charged, and I will now do it the way so many posters have already suggested.
