Joey Boy in parliament to discuss reforestation in Nan province



BANGKOK: -- Wellknown rapper and entertainer Joey Boy has earned widespread praise from his fans and netizens in general when his images attending a meeting of a parliamentary panel discussing reforestation were posted in the social media.

Joey Boy also posted a message saying that he had never imagined that, in his life, he would have a chance of actually attending a meeting in the parliament. “…the next step is to start (reforestation). Personally, I may need help from all of you soon.”

The rapper has vowed to help reforest about 500,000 rai of denuded forests in Nan province. When he first made his vow not long ago, most people doubted that he was serious about it and thought it might be just a self-promotion stint.

But his doubters were proven wrong. Joey Boy launched a campaign to mobilize fund from the public and he also made his own contribution. So far, 600,000 baht has been raised.

Massive maize cultivation and illegal logging have been blamed for the depletion of forest cover in Nan.

One might observe that the well connected (including politicians) are probably the ones that denuded the forests in the first place. Ironic really?
