Brazil’s interim president wants to ‘pacify’ and ‘unify’ country

BRASILIA: -- Fresh into the job, Brazil’s interim president says his priority is to pacify and unify the country.

Speaking in Brasilia, Michel Temer said credibility has to be restored, describing the work ahead as “complicated” and “difficult.”

The 75-year-old was also keen to reassure apprehensive Brazilians that social programmes will stay in place.

Temer has a tough task ahead. He has to try and turn around a massive downturn in Brazil and cut bloated public spending.

He has taken up the top job after Dilma Rousseff was suspended. She is to go on trial on charges of breaking budget laws.

Temer will be president for the duration of those proceedings, which could take up to six months.

So Let's get this straight - a socialist president lied about the economy in Brazil in order to get reelected?

Imagine that. wink.png
