BANGKOK: -- Deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday remained confident of the country's economic growth this year, citing foreign investors' confidence in the country.

At the opening of the Money Expo 2016 at Impact Muang Thong Thani, Mr Somkid said he was confident that the country’s economy will gradually improve.

He advised that all Thai citizens to be strong and patient and adopt a long outlook, overlooking any obstacles that will arise.

Thai people must adopt a more positive outlook and not be so engrossed with bad news or negative comments.

He cited a cause for excitement in the news that A.T. Kearney, a globally renowned consultancy company, has added Thailand as the 21st country on its most attractive investment list.

Two years ago the country wasn’t even on the list of 25 countries promoted by the company, he said.

He also said the Chinese telecom giant, Huawei, has announced that it has chosen Thailand as the location for its innovation and technology center for the region with plan to invest 15 billion baht this year, and 5 billion more next year.

This is another source of good news as Huawei’s facility will act as the gateway for the Asian region.

Mr Somkid said further that these two developments strongly indicate the confidence international investors have with Thailand despite the recent economic and political troubles.

He also expressed his desire to establish the country as the digital hub for the Asian region and has accordingly tasked the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology to develop plans for a complete nationwide internet coverage as well as development of ‘digital clusters’ so that Thailand can move toward the intended 4.0 generation of growth.

"Deputy prime minister Somkid Jatusripitak yesterday remained confident of the country's economic growth this year, citing foreign investors' confidence in the country."

The look on his face says a lot more than his words about his confidence.

The big list of local companies behind him does nothing positive to reflect foreign investment.

IS their a graph of incoming to outgoing investment?
