BANGKOK, 13 May 2016 (NNT) – The Ministry of Tourism and Sports is looking to increase flights between Thailand and the Philippines while indicating a rise in the number of visitors from some countries.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul disclosed that there is a plan to discuss with airlines about opening more flights to and from the Philippines, citing the country as a high-potential market with a large passenger base.

The minister hinted that the new flights might connect a popular city like Cebu to major destinations in Thailand, such as Chiang Mai, Phuket and Krabi.

Meanwhile, Ms Kobkarn reported that the number of tourists from India and Russia has been higher than last year. She expressed confidence that more than one million Russian visitors will be seen in the Kingdom throughout this year, surpassing the target.

The Prime Minister’s upcoming visit to Russia next week to attend the ASEAN-Russia Summit is also expected to help draw more tourists from the country.

Regarding domestic tourism, the minister pointed out that the ailing economy is unlikely to deter Thai people from taking trips in the country. She said tour operators are making an effort to entice customers by rolling out promotional offers and large discounts while the ministry has requested private companies to hold seminars or outings at least once a year.

So braintrust at the Ministry of Tourism and Sports got together and THIS is what the geniuses came up with??? Next, they will be offering incentives to entice visits to and from Somalia! facepalm.gifcheesy.gif

Has the Tourism Authority of Thailand launched their own LCC?

Cheaper flights to Angeles for the discerning night life tourist. Bangkok, Pattaya, Angeles City. package.

good put back on the flight to Clark which I used so many times... bored with that long drive down to Angeles from Manila

So happy to see the tourism Ministry on top of this airline opportunity. The airlines would never think of it themselves.

Engines on! Sarcasm to full power!

Has the Tourism Authority of Thailand launched their own LCC?

LCC, no way, Full Service, Business Class only.

That is the type of service "quality tourists" expect.

Great......More Russians and Indians rolleyes.gif .

Where are the days when I arrived in Pattaya 1996 and there were ; socks and sandals Britsthumbsup.gif , Noisy Germanswai.gif , obnoxious Americanswink.png , funny Aussiesclap2.gif , weirdo Belgiansgigglem.gif , and lets not forget the stingy Dutchfacepalm.gif , and the arrogant Frenchblink.png........All pun intended guys, not an attack on any nationalitywai2.gif . Oh yeah and lets not forget the odd lost Arabsmile.png .

Seriously, I would guess if there is an increase of arrivals from the Philippines, it will be because of the ASEAN rules regarding cross border employment. In this case, I am assuming Filipinos will be valued as employees in the big tourist destinations because of their English language skills.

Lovely eyes !!

More tourists from India and Russia so now there will be more vodka to drink while waiting for your new suit.

Joke honestly joke. ?

Another misleading title making it sound like she is a visionaire. As if the Ministry of Tourism themselves are launching the flights. If there is a gap in the market somewhere, airlines will identify it and then submit requests for route approvals.

Contrary to what she believes you cant just add more flights to any route without International approval. You can add a flight or two with the country that is only Thailand's concern but not Internationally.

Has there been a change in that does the Ministry of Tourism also control the flights in and out of country? If it does it is very strange

Out of touch with reality, just another token minister................should launch herself somewhere far away.

Her credentials for the job are what exactly?

And unlike Manila, there is no problem with slots at Clark.

So LOS will be exchanging lady boys for their billy boys.

Good idea then Thais can see how a democracy works.

Check out her Bio, her husband is?

Tonight's Million Dollar Question: What do batteries and tourism have in common?

She is the chairperson of Toshiba Thailand, a joint venture her parents started in 1969 with Toshiba Corporation with the latter holding 45% of the equity.

Active in business, education, art and a member of Thailand’s elite hi-so.

She is married to Pol Maj Gen Chonnasith, who for a short term headed Phuket’s police force.

So is this where we've been getting our daily dose of fun from for the last few years?
