KRABI, 12 May 2016 (NNT) -More than 200 media professionals from Asian and Pacific countries are attending the 2nd ABU Media Summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction, co-hosted by the Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union and Thai Public Broadcasting Service (Thai PBS).

The theme of the summit is “Media Meets Climate Change and Disaster Challenges” -- a meeting at which all stakeholders who are concerned with Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction work are welcome.

The Secretary-General of ABU, Dr.Javad Mottaghi said today that this second summit on Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction is a good opportunity to monitor the media's work on these issues. As so many sectors concerned with Climate Change and Disaster Risk Reduction have joined this summit, it means an ongoing process can be implemented together.

So as to make the summit truly meaningful, Director General of Thai PBS Mr.Krissada Raungarreerat stated that the academicians and civic society need to identify how to overcome current challenges to arrive at the best practical solution.

Furthermore, he announced that there will be a Krabi Declaration defining how the stakeholders will work together. The declaration will be submitted to UNISDR at the 7th Asian Ministerial Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in New Delhi this November. The summit in Krabi began today, and ends on Saturday, 14th May.
