BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha today presided over the foundation laying ceremony of a government guesthouse inside the compound of Government House.

The corner stonelaying ceremony was performed in both Brahmin god worshipping ritual and Buddhism religion at 06.39 am Monday.

The prime minister led his Cabinet ministers and senior government officials of the Prime Minister’s Office to attend the ceremony.

Construction of the 136 million baht guesthouse will take one year to complete after the contract was signed on March 29 this year with Vidhya-Silentech Joint Venture.

The guesthouse is designed by the Fine Arts Department and will have the same design as the Thai Ku Fah building in Government House.

It will be used to receive significant guests of the Government.

Official name of the guesthouse is not yet given.

"It will be used to receive significant guests of the Government."

Only needs to be a little one then... like the sole Thai aircraft carrier? The one with no aircraft which has now been turned into a tourist attraction? Another thing the Thai armed forces absolutely had to have to make neighbouring countries fear them... cheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif

Still, could always rent out the vacant rooms on a short time basis. Every country should know what it's good at.

From the title,I was thinking whats he doing laying a corner stone on some

backpacker guest house on Khao San Road, but no,it seems to be a very

plush guest house for V.V.I.P. next to Government house,136 million THB

I am sure the would be more important projects that the money could be

used for Hospital,Schools come to mind.

Vidhya-Silentech Joint Venture

I am always intrigued about contract awards in Thailand.

In many places, construction companies that compete for government contracts, especially those with a high profile, have some sort of presence on the web. This joint venture is a total mystery to Google.

Oh, I'm sure everything is clean and above-board. wai.gif

Money is just like water to these people, they simply flush it down the toilet everyday.

Yet another unnecessary and wasteful project.
