Family of disabled man killed by sons of police seeking justice

BANGKOK, 16 May 2016 (NNT) – The family of a disabled man killed by seven men is asking for justice, suggesting that prosecutors charge the wrongdoers with first-degree murder.

Police Major General Sakda Weerasiriyanon of the Royal Thai Police received a petition from Ananchai Chaiyadech, the lawyer of the victim, Somkiat Srichan, and his family. The petition asks that all of the suspects be put under the charge of premeditated murder or first-degree murder which is the crime of wrongfully and intentionally causing the death of another human being.

Police Major General Sakda assured the lawyer and the victim’s family that the case will be treated fairly, adding that the suspects’ connection with the police force will not affect the case.

Four of the seven suspects are reported to be sons of police officers.

Earlier this month, Somkiat was stabbed in the neck near Chokchai Police Station and was sent to Paolo Memorial Hospital where he was declared dead.

Depends how far up the food chain the Police are, if they are normal traffic cops, their kids will get busted the same as everyone else, but very high ranking officers are in a totally different world, they are almost untouchable, unless of course the word comes from up above, then their kids will get busted too.

Depends if someone from high sees this as an opportunity to show that there is no favor shown in the Thai judicial system, although we all know that would be a false claim, if someone can score points, an order could be given leaving the police no option but to prosecute, my feelings are it will be settled monetarily out of court with the victims family who will then decide to drop charges, and the boys will become monks for 90 days.

Why should it affect the case juts because your dads a policeman, if that happened in the UK the dads would probably stand down as policeman out of shame rather than try to use their position to get the children off.

After living here for 12 years the country never ceases to amaze me, people just dont care about one another, dont worry they killed someone like a pack of wolves its 'daddy will get me off'

If you cant do the time dont do the crime cry babies

Nothing can bring back their dad and husband. But I do hope there will be decent financial compensation for the family. Would my son do something horrible like that, I sure would go far to try and easy the victims well and not try to get away with cheap stuff as that actress and red bulls seem to have done.

The only justice will be a small payment of around 100,000 baht providing they shut up.

If the family push the case, then they will end up with nothing. Going to court will result in them losing as the seven defendants will simply claim that the victim attacked them, so they were defending themselves. Judges side with the police and like money.

Uh oh, there's the ominous phrase. The family of the victim are stuffed now for sure.

The UK is nearly 6000 Miles away in distance but a million miles away in terms of transparency.

That's not to say there has never been, or still aren't bent UK Coppers and it would be somehow miraculous if a High Ranking UK Cop has never pulled a few strings to assist a guilty party, but this would all be on the hush hush need to know system, normal people would never hear about it.

In Thailand corruption is so open because they have no fear, who's going to bust them ?

They fearlessly display their wealth that all know must have been ill - gotten because they know as long as they tow the line, i.e. be loyal and serve their masters they have a virtual blank cheque.

if they are high ranking enough they are needed by the Elite to keep the poor masses in their place and to enforce the laws that protect the rich and privileged.

Unless the word comes down from way up above, they do as they please, of course the chances of pulling strings greatly diminish as you go lower in the ranks.

You have to sympathize with the family. They know there is little chance these scum will be charged let alone with 1st degree murder. If this happened in any other country the family would make sure they had justice - read into that what you will

All you can wish them is the very best of luck,

finding justice here ,especially when you are

poor, and are up against the rich and powerful,

is an extremely difficult task, there is defiantly

a two tier system of law here.

One certainly would like to see that justice prevails and compensation awarded to this family , the legal system needs to send a clear message that no matter who you are , you are not immune from justice , even if this new attitude has only been in vogue in the last 24 hours..........................................coffee1.gif .

Depends if this case can be used to score political points, even then, what is reported to happen and what actually happens, can greatly vary.

Too? It's only the sons, and a girl, that have been charged or committed any offence. Police officers procreating isn't yet a crime.

They have already been charged and are being held in Bangkok Remand Prison, do keep up.

Family demands murder charge be filed against youths who killed a disabled man

16_disabled-man-wpcf_728x409.jpg

BANGKOK: -- Relatives of a disabled man who was beaten and stabbed to death by a group of youths in Lat Phrao area in broad daylight and amid several onlookers last month lodged a petition with the national police chief today (Monday) demanding that police slap murder charges against the six perpetrators.

Accompanied by their lawyer, the family of the victim, Mr Somkiat Srichan, told reporters at the National Police Office that they wanted the Chokechai police who are in charge of handling the case to lodge murder charges against the six youths instead of manslaughter charges.

The lawyer, Mr Anantachai Chaidet, said he had presented to the police video clippings taken from surveillance cameras at the crime scene at the time the victim was ganged up by the youths.

Personally, he said the perpetrators should be charged with murder but Chokechai police instead charged them with manslaughter.

The case sparked off a lot of comments in the social media from netizens, including businessman Vikrom Kromdit, who suggested that the perpetrators should be executed.

thought the title read 'sons of police killed disabled mans family who were seeking justice'

that's next weeks headlines, after they make bail.

Or the perps were only defending themselves, as the victim attempted to murder them.

it must have been a long and grueling battle! the young men were surely at huge disadvantage! seriously. this case puffing out like white smoke is surely one good way to return happiness to the people.

Ridiculous. I actually feel that the cops are trying to shield the killers as much as possible by watering down the charges and delaying the whole thing so the lightest possible punishments can be given down the line when most people have forgotten and a new scandal du jour is upon the population.
If the B2 in koh tao got the death sentence for simply murder while drunk in a joint enterprise, then these guys and girls should get the same punishment. The self defence argument doesn't stack up when its 6 on 1 and the guy is very clearly disabled and actually fleeing in the video.

Only a confession would commute the sentence, surely if they don't confess they get the maximum sentence, if not its the watered down sentence which should be 15 years to life. Either way they should be all over. Lets hope a harsh judge gets his / her teeth into this case

So much for the junta cleaning up corruption, it seems prayut is ok with all the horror stories hitting the headlines lately, surely by now they must realized they cannot control social media like they can the media, lately the truth about thailand is becoming global, and will have huge impacts later, but no worry 2 submarines (that take 10 years to be built) will fix all these problems

On other point to note, is why charge them with premeditated murder, as they will easily get off with that as th attack was not premeditated

Seems like they ha already lifted the carpet up ready.

from my understanding that even if these killers get jail time they can buy their way out. know a girl banged up on selling drugs. she has 3 years to serve or can pay 200K to get out now. same for another woman i know heard of who stole a car she rented and then sold. whole thing seems pointless, even if they get jail time they will just buy their way out if the family have the cash. suppose the argument is that loosing the money to buy their way out would be their or their families punishment. would rather see that money go to the victims family.

at least some of this crime was captured on phone camera or it would not have even been discussed without getting into the public spotlight. how many crimes like these go without any attention simply because they were not captured on camera?
