Ultra HD Blu-ray Player

Featured Replies

Does anyone know if the new Samsung Ultra HD Blu-ray Player is out to buy anywhere in Bangkok?

Cheers.

AFAIK, the only bluray UHD player available retail is the Samsung UBD-K8500, and I've never seen it for sale anywhere in TH.

Apparently Philips are releasing their BDP7501 next month, but again I suspect you're going to have to buy it the same place you buy the UHD blurays that go in it - i.e. UK or US.

I'm sure it will be available soon at one of the big stores.

I just pre-ordered The Revenant 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray from Amazon. Only 1000 baht including delivery to Thailand.

What about region coding? ;)

The Oppo Bdp 103d is available on lazada. I have seen it at advertised cheaper on the net for 20k.

There is no region coding with Ultra HD. It's been dropped.

That's a basic blu-ray - not Ultra HD

I've read suggestions of that, yep, but what's reality? UHD is just an extension on top of the standard bluray spec, so region coding is still technically possible.

I guess another factor is what other discs you might already have (bluray/DVD) and what region coding they have. That's a consideration for me, YMMV though.

Right there are only 2 released UHD disc players, and one more coming next month.

If you have a back catalog of Region 2 DVD's / Zone B blurays, the Panasonic DMP-UB900 is the only model not yet mentioned so far in this thread that might be of interest. It's of no interest to me because all my library is Region 1 / Zone A.

Yes, it's true, there is no region coding on the new ultra-hd format. it's been dropped. However, it is still running on the blu-ray format. So the new ultra-hd players won't play region locked blu-rays.

It's not the Bluray Disc Association that determines whether or not titles will have region coding - it's up to the studios/content owners. Two studios were quoted at the last CES as saying their announced UHD bluray titles aren't region coded, and everyone since then has just re-hashed the story and changed the meaning to "there's no region coding in UHD bluray".

The fact is, region coding remains in the UHD bluray spec, but let's hope they never do implement it ;)
