Bad first impression of Pattaya

Featured Replies

A couple friends of mine took the bus from Ekamai bus station to Pattaya with no problem. Then... They hopped on the public songtaew parked at the bus station & of course after the driver stuffs 12 tourists inside (20 minute wait for them) takes off charging each passenger 50 baht. Really? The last time I rode it, the fee was 30 baht. Is there a printed fee somewhere? ( They were getting off on North Beach Rd. --- Such a hill billy operation

Yep, it's 30 baht.

Guy made 2 days' wages in one ride.

Who's the hillbilly(s)?

Edit: Mind you, I don't condone the behavior, but it's hardly dumb.

So they paid 20 baht extra, guess they had to tighten their belts for a couple of days to make it back up.

If your going to get hustled in Thailand, and you are, this is a really gentle experience, and you actually get a service for it.

In the grand scheme of things if this is going to bother you stay home, order a pizza online and don't tip the delivery guy, you'll enjoy the savings.

Send them off to Phuket. I heard it's much better there. whistling.gif

They could have walked across the road and waited (which could have taken longer then 20 minutes) for a Baht Bus coming down from Sukhumvit which would costs approx 10 THB each and which would have dropped them off on Beach Road

As sukhumvit has their own white baht buses (amongst other colors), the likelihood of a baht bus coming down from sukhumvit happens seldom and even more seldom in either direction of north Pattaya road at night. :(

The baht buses are really fantastic all day but just terrible at night.

There are baht buses going from North Road (near) Dolphin roundabout to Sukhumvit and vv, but they aren't frequent and there are not many as on for example Pattaya Klang road or South Pattaya Road.

And I am not talking about the white Sukhumvit buses.

Awful! Just awful!!

Guy made 2 days' wages in one ride.

600 Baht for a pack of 12 "farangs".

That gives an extra schnaps for the meal biggrin.png

Only 12?

Send them to the "Russian carrier", Baht bus from corner South and 2nd rd. to Jomtien.

16 is easily reached. But for normal prices (10 Baht).

Surprised, once was not enough.

Ive tried that, they pull over and when you say you want to go to the beach they speed off empty, its strange

but why bother when a van will take you all the way? I know people are scared of them but probably no more dangerous then the bus

One more pearl of wisdom. facepalm.gif

Next time ask the price first.
