Nida Poll: Most people were not happier under the NCPO as they were before

BANGKOK: -- Over 40 percent of the people admitted that they were as happy during the past two years under the military regime as they were before the period because nothing has change, especially the “mouth and stomach” problem which is yet to be fixed, said the Nida Poll.

The poll was based on the random survey of opinions of 1,250 people throughout the country during May 17-18 on how they feel about the administration of the National Council for Peace and Order and whether they are happy or not under the military regime.

While 43.28 percent said they were not happier during the past two years, 37.68 percent of the respondents said they were happier because the country was peaceful and devoid of political conflicts and they felt more secured.
However, 18.24 percent said that they were less happy because of the poor economic situation, high cost of living, farm price slump, restriction of free expressions and undemocratic climate.

Similar opinion survey conducted during the NCPO’s one year in the office showed that 40.72 percent of the respondents said they were not happier during the period but 49.44 percent said they were much happier.

Absence of political violence was identified as the main cause for the happiness of 52.96 percent of the respondents followed by 11.68 percent for the crackdown on corruption.

Looks like the PM's big happy stick needs new batteries.

Some author is going to lose his or her job very soon I guess.

What's necessary with democracy as much as the democracy itself are the checks and balances and the rule of law administered by an independent judiciary otherwise at best an 'undemocratic climate' will and I agree in this case has, prevailed.

Even with the best intentions underlying it, this climate is not conducive to optimism and happiness among the general population; there's something rather stagnant and uncompromising and unpromising about it.

You know things are bad when the government can't buy a positive poll result anymore.

Well the baht is still (too) strong and if they don't lower it nothing will change.

You know things are bad when the government can't buy a positive poll result anymore.

Ok so maybe there is a translation issue but that headline and first paragraph of the OP are hilarious, it seems like there is an attempt to put a positive spin on something that very obviously not positive at all

Not Happier - meaning people are Happy but just not "more happy", it is likely the word that better fits should be "unhappy"

In fact how about a straight to the point "satisfied" or "unsatisfied"

2 years today, he started to bring happiness to the people. lol

Keep trying Smedley, you're almost a lone voice now.

Most of your mob have finally become silent in the face of the overwhelming evidence of the real purpose of the Junta.

But not you, living there on your planet.

I am surprised by this rather honest poll, wasn't it reported not long ago a poll of 99.9% like the Junta, over the past twelve months the Junta has slipped big time as people start to see the danger signs of previous Military junta's, people were never happier under the NCPO , what a course that has been set for Thailand, a decade of these loonies and the charter , then as the rough road map say's democratic elections, and back to the PTP ,Just what was achieved.............................coffee1.gif

Govt spin doctors are musing "This is encouraging - our Govt must stay even longer, as its objective of bringing happiness will need more time to work."

"Happiness is a warm gun

bang, bang, shoot, shoot"

John Lennon

However, 18.24 percent said that they were less happy because of the poor economic situation, high cost of living, farm price slump, restriction of free expressions and undemocratic climate.

So by inference 81.76% are happy with the poor economy , high cost of living, farm prices, and restriction imposed on free expression and democracy...

If Prayut had participated in the poll, he too might not be more happy either.

In August 2014 Prayut said he would only be in power for one year.

He expected GDP growth for 2015 to be 3.5-4.5%.

The NCPO aimed to avoid debt.

But he did get one thing right that should give him happiness:

"Don't say the NCPO can do everything. I'm not an angel."

Wait...ahm...what does this mean?

Possibility a) they are equally happy now, as they were before...which means, the previous government had an approval rating of somewhere between 78 and 98 %?! blink.png

Then why have a coup?

Possibility b ) they were as unhappy, as they are now...which means, all the previous dingdonghappyhappy- polls were all a giant heap of BS?!

I can't believe that, because that would mean, someone made them up and pulled some happiness- figures out of their respective anuses!

...I am so confused, right now!

And this is the result of a minority forcing it's will on a majority. NOT HAPPY, UNHAPPY, UNSATISFIED, call it what you like mate, but it seems the "Retuning happiness to the people" just failed spectacularly.

But the PM has told the public that the draft will sail through and he does not know if an election will happen.

That should make a few people happywhistling.gif

Somewhere on his road to happiness we have taken a detour.

'Mouth and stomach' problems ? I don't think so as the majority of Thai's i know only ever think about their mouth and stomach all day and every day !

<deleted> - thought better of it
