BANGKOK: -- Followers of Phra Dhammachayo have scrapped their plan to petition Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha seeking justice for the embattled abbot of Wat Dhammakaya over the Department of Special Investigation’s demand that he turns himself in to the DSI to acknowledge the charges against him.

The followers have wanted DSI enquiry officials to go to the temple to notify Dhammachayo of the charges claiming that the monk bed-ridden and too sick to leave the temple.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister Wisanu Kruea-ngarm said that the DSI was duty-bound to check doctor’s health certificate confirming the abbot’s sickness to determine its credibility and authenticity.

Also, he said that the temple had the right to clarify the abbot’s health conditions.
