gandalf12
Why was so much money left in the school over the weekend? Surely it should have been deposited in a bank

It definitely does not give the idea of security.

slapout
It should be easy to find out which employees and/or students of the school knew the amount in the box at the end of the day this should be a easy one to crack even for the RTP. If thats not easy enough, who knew the cctv was not working? Why not open the other 4 safes. lucky guess? Or who works in the finance office and is close to a BIB, could be another approach. Just for advice of course.

luckyman
"Police said that all staff were being interviewed and they had an open mind as to whether it was an inside or outside job. CCTV was checked but was found not to be operational." Their question answered, an inside job for sure, otherwise the CCTV would have worked and they (the robbers) would have opened more safes too... Surely it should have been deposited in a bank When you don't plan ahead, a bank holiday can really take you by surprise! Totally explains it. Who would have thought it would be a long weekend since it was known from the beginning of the year. You have a very valid point.

billphillips
Inside job ... I don't know, but it certainly looks that way. In my experience the banks at shopping malls and supermarkets are open even though the high street branches are closed, they also stay open much later. Surely at least some of the money could have been banked before the holiday weekend. How convenient for the culprits that the cctv was off and that they broke into the correct safe at the first try. Some gross negligence from the head of the finance office oiled the wheels for these lucky guys. Meanwhile the boys in the brown catsuits are still trying to work it all out!
