BANGKOK: -- The Department of Special Investigation on Tuesday lodged an additional charge of money laundering against the former chairman of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives in connection with the money that he arbitrarily donated to Wat Dhammakaya.

DSI deputy director-general Pol Lt-Col Somboon Sarasith together with Mr Kachornsak Putthanuparb, a special public prosecutor and a team of police enquiry officers went to Bangkwang maximum security prison in Nonthaburi to notify Mr Supachai Srisupa-aksorn of the money laundering charge for his acknowledgement.

The additional charge against the former chairman of Klongchan Credit Union Cooperatives was in correspondence with similar charge that the DSI is to file against Phra Dhammachayo, abbot of Wat Dhammakaya.

The embattled abbot of Wat Dhammakaya is yet to acknowledge the money laundering and receiving stolen object charges against him claiming that he is too sick to travel to the DSI to acknowledge the charges. He has wanted the DSI enquiry officers to go to the temple to notify him of the charges for his acknowledgement.

Earlier, Mr Supachai and other officials of the cooperatives were charged with misappropriation for stealing about 22 million baht from the cooperatives. He was sentenced to 16 years imprisonment by the Criminal Court.’

The man is in jail, send him a certified mail, informing him of addition charges . Go get the monk and the other corrupt individuals who were involved in this massive scam.

Can these officials go to the head by themselves? To send a bus load of government employees to do what a letter or a call to his legal representive would do, shows how wasteful and/ or overstaffed this part of government is. It probably indicates their attitude toward law enforcement also as well as several other undesirable human traits.

A personal visit is much preferred if the recipient has an informal response to make to the charges, such as the handover of evidence in support of his innocence contained in a large brown envelope. And naturally everyone wants to be in on this as large sums of money are involved in this case so there should be plenty of evidence and brown envelopes to go round.

You even sometimes get to see the brown envelopes in the press release pix. Oh what is that the guy in the picture above is holding? He's on his way in so its probably empty, but I am sure it will be full of evidence on the way out!
