NRSA reaches decision to approve setting up of national sports universities

BANGKOK, 25 May 2016 (NNT) – The National Reform Steering Assembly has reached a decision to approve the proposal to transform physical education institutes into national sports universities.

At its sitting on Tuesday, the NRSA reviewed a report from the committee on the reform of sports, arts, culture, religion, ethics and morality, which discussed the integration of institutes of physical education and the setting up of national sports universities.

In the report, the committee also presented a draft National Sports University Act.

Chairman of the committee Gen. Yuthasak Sasiprapha said that the setting up of national sports universities, is another important step towards the development of the economy and society as it will help enhance the long-term competitiveness of Thailand.

In the proposal, the committee suggested the transformation of 17 existing physical education institutes and 13 standing sports schools into one national sports university in each of the four regions of the country to produce quality graduates with knowledge, skills and capabilities in physical education, sport science and technology and other related fields.

As for the draft National Sports University Act, Gen. Yuthasak said that the proposed law will be the means to develop the quality of the participants and direct the reform tof the nation’s sports.

At the end of the deliberations, members of the NRSA voted 139 to seven, with 18 abstentions, to approve all proposals.

A universities dedicated to sports makes since because those dedicated to education don't seem to be working out too well.As in the (education) type universities that have a no fail policy,if an athlete has a goal of a number in say a time in running or a height in jumping will he be given a degree of " Sports Excellence" as a success even though he had failed to obtain his goal ?

Yes just imagine would be athletes, sports and fitness instructors etc leaving with a degree they could never have achieved by legit means.

Bound to improve the quality of Thai sports.

Utter misuse of funds, but what else is new?

Setting up national sports universities is an admirable goal.

Finally, Thais can show the world that the country has a first class physical sports industry.

Better than trying to establish universities that focus on intellectual innovation and creativity. Global competition on intellect is already very challenging for a national breakthrough.

I think it's a great idea, if carried out correctly. But, how big is the committee on the reform of sports, arts, culture, religion, ethics and morality? And, what are they experts in? A committee on morality, religion? Yikes!

Thank goodness for the coup, and these critical reforms.

In other news today, reform of Orange juice.
