PATTAYA: -- A letter showing that a Russian bank robber who killed a Pattaya cop was about to be freed has been posted on a police web page.

The page says he served only 13 years for murder while the family of the cop suffer for ever reported Manager Online.

The story relates to a bank robbery that took place at the Krung Sri Ayuthaya bank in South Pattaya on the 30th August 2002. Four armed Russian men entered the branch and managed to steal 2.4 million baht. In the course of the robbery officer Songkitti Maneechot a local police officer was shot dead. He was a customer of the bank going there to deposit money to pay a mortgage and got caught up in the robbery.

The gang escaped on a speedboat but three were rounded up later with Cheremnich Vilich (sic) originally given the death sentence which was reduced to a 33 year sentence after he squealed on the rest of the gang. Further reductions on six occasions over the years saw his final sentence come out at just 13 years and four months.

The post on the "Thailand Police Story" Facebook page shows a letter from Khlong Prem prison in Bangkok to Banglamung police saying that Vilich will have served his time by May 11th this year and would be released to them for apparent deportation.

There was no report that this has actually been carried out.

Two other members of the gang remain locked away. Ulalof Renas (sic) received a full life sentence with no remission after he refused to admit his part in the robbery while Milikief Makas (sic) is serving a full 33 years 4 months. Two other members of the gang escaped altogether.

A bank job done by Russians in Pattaya to get more Thai baht?!

When did they came up with that genius plan, during breakfast?

It may not be enough but at least he's done some time.

What happens to many rich, hiso, well connected Thais who take a life ?

Had they planted few Ya Ba pills on him he'd be done for 15 years at least like someone I know,

in Russia, he'd get life with hard labour in some gulag in frozen shithole somewhere...

So note to all foreign and domestic would be robbers and murderers... rat on your accomplices

and you'd be out like a charm after only few years....who says crime doesn't pay???...

I think it is safe to say that he may well disappear with out a trace soon after being released from jail.coffee1.gif

"Only 13 years for murder while the family of the cop suffer for ever" ....tell that to the Red Bull heir. Oh I forgot ...he paid 3 million baht to the family, so they don't suffer.

2.4 million baht for 13 years is shit pay...

No doubt he paid the family for his reduced sentence!

Shooting, cop killing & robbery = 13 years

Cop killing with a sports car under influence but with influence = walk free

....not condoning the robbery or the murder...

...but...someone else pulled the trigger....???

....and....

....it seems that we only ever read about the law being upheld....against foreigners....

***

...can't say the same for the meting out of justice though....quite the contrary....

No mention of a "brown envelope".

Surely that played a strong influence somewhere.

He won't be released onto the streets...he'll be turned over to Immigration police and deported back to Russia.

At least he served 13+ years, meanwhile, the red bull SOB has yet to show up at a police station 4 years after the fact. And the police are extending the invitation to show up, yet again.

Amazing Thailand, indeed.

With the right amount of "pardons" coming round in this country a mad, murdering serial rapist, could be out in less than 10 years - to just go and do the crimes again...I pointed this out to the GF and she agreed it could happen...but the person has to report to the poilce on a regular basis if he does....awe gee that fixes it...

The red bull person is waiting for the statute of limitations to run out then he is scot free.....not sure what it is in LoS ? Some one on here will ?

Not a done deal yet!.......13 years in a thai prison would feel like 25 years in western civilized prison.....

Don't forget the b-list actress who paid the family and did a few weeks as a nun after killing a cop by running into his car, drunk.

How much time did Chalerm's son get?

Hence, there are generally more crimes committed in the West. Prisons have the comforts of home.

Unless, of course, you're including those prisons in Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, etc.

Kicking him out of prison, and I assume deporting him, I doubt this guy will be able to buy life insurance at any cost. coffee1.gif

Hmm, is there a correlation between harsh prisons and lower crime? The softest prisons in the world are in Scandinavia, they also have some of the lowest crime and lowest recidivism rates, among the hardest in the EU is the UK, the crime rate is also among the highest as is the recidivism rate.

Each of the countries in Scandinavia probably has a lower population than major cities like London, Shanghai, Tokyo, NY, etc. Not an apples to apples comparison. Anyway, I think Singapore, which has harsh prisons, has an even lower crime rate than Sweden, Norway, etc.
