Water Festival to Resume this Year

Prime Minister Hun Sen announced yesterday that the annual three-day Water Festival will take place this year. The celebration, which was cancelled last year for what the premier said was on account of low water levels throughout the Kingdom but which critics derided as politically motivated, has been on hiatus for four of the past five years.

Speaking in front of thousands of students during a graduation ceremony in Phnom Penh, Mr. Hun Sen announced that this year’s Water Festival would be celebrated on November 13, 14 and15, adding that he had high hopes for deep water over the weekend after Sunday’s Royal Ploughing Ceremony predicted a coming year of plentiful rain.

“After missing two consecutive years, this year we must celebrate the event. Therefore, please be ready to prepare to row the boats,” the prime minister said. He then took a moment to address the government’s decision to cancel last year’s festivities.

ThaiVisa, it's also in French

Cancelled due to lack of water and drought? Maybe neighboring countries should have looked at that too.
