AIS wins latest 4G auction

BANGKOK, 27 May 2016 (NNT) – Advanced Info Service (AIS) has been confirmed as the sole auction participant for the 900 Mhz 4G band with the first round price set at 75.654 billion baht.

In a new round of auctions for the 900 Mhz 4G frequency being organized by the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) after Jas Mobile abandoned its license, Advanced Wireless Network Co. Ltd., a firm within the AIS group, has been named the sole auction participant. The first round of the auction has had its price set to match the closing auction of the last bid at 75.654 billion baht. AIS has been made the automatic winner of the auction.

Once the NBTC approves AIS’s win, it will have 90 days to make its first payment installation of 8 billion baht and secure a bank guarantee for the entire payment.

Analysts have pointed out AIS will likely attempt to complete its payment by June 30, when its 2G contract expires.

"Win"? In a one horse race they also came last and middle of the field.

"Once the NBTC approves AISs win". What choice do they have. No, we are going to approve the second place bidder.?

More like AIS bid is under consideration due to uncertainties and the auction to be reviewed

Repeat for the next 10 years ( ala 3G auctions) and 4G handsets will continue to be sold as if it were really in place.
