AYUTTHAYA — Businessman Jenphop Viraporn was indicted yesterday for the fiery crash that killed two graduate students on an Ayutthaya highway.

Two months after the accident drew nationwide attention and accusations of delayed justice, the 37-year-old millionaire now stands accused of eight charges before the court, including vehicular manslaughter and driving under the influence.

“This case is a case that the public is very interested in,” prosecutor Yongyuth Kiattisakdisophon was quoted in media reports.

The public were very interested in the case of miss Ayuttaya who killed 9 when too young to even have a driving license a few years ago. She has yet to complete her harsh sentence of community service at uncles hospital, so I don;t think public interest has any bearing on these hi so killer cases.

The real merit for the two victims should be life in prison without the possibility of parole.

I'm not sure one can delay the lodgement for that long!

Ah! There is the get-out clause right there! This criminal is too tender for prison; instead, he needs to be coddled in a 'medical facility'. And this request comes from the state prosecutor! One could not make this outrageous stuff up. All the cards are being carefully prepared - just in case things go worse than the filthy 'elites' would ideally wish ....

I don't know, call me old fashioned if you like, but when it takes public interest to achieve the outcome of a prosecution within the justice system, regardless of where that is in the world, then there is something very, very wrong with the system.

I say achieve the outcome of a prosecution, if it were not for the public outcry this would in all likelihood have disappeared through the cracks of said system given time like so many before.

Yes....His family said he had to show sincerity. His reaction was: "Sincerity. Sure, I can fake that...That and a head shave, and I should be free in no time".

Why even go through the motions?. Everyone knows it's a crooked system, skewed to favor the wealthy.

There is another HiSo case that seems to be completely forgotten, what happened in the case of the Lao girl that was sliced in 2 in Pathumthani by a student who "borrowed" his father's new Porsche? Must be 5 or so years back now

What this country needs is an Eliot Ness. If you really believe in the next life, how better to get there through honesty, integrity and an incorruptible moral compass.

Still baffles me as to why Thais and foreigners bother with police or courts in these cases. They are useless. If anyone in the UK murdered one of my relatives then I would go through the proper legal channels. If it happened here, the guilty party would never see the inside of a court or prison. They would be in their grave.

Agreed. If the Thai people were taught the history of these two events (and world social, economic and political history in general) they might have recognised the power in their hands and initiated change if various types long ago.

The Defence tried to use the "mental I'll, unfit for prison", cop out. So in fairness to the Prosecution, they demand "if that's the case, take him off the streets, and put him in a mental facility".

I really do hope they do this one right and give him at least a long time in jail but the way they are wording press releases seems just as farcical as before. I've no doubt international eyes are interested too with laughter and dismay.
