Princess Chulabhorn has lump removed from throat

Sirinthip Sitabutr

BANGKOK, 29 May 2016 (NNT) - Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn has undergone a successful surgery to remove a lump in her throat to prevent a malignant development of the tissue, the Bureau of the Royal Household said in a statement issued on Saturday.

The surgery was conducted after doctors at Vichaiyuth Hospital took sample tissues of the lump for biopsy on May 20. Although pathological examinations on the specimen showed it was non-cancerous, the medical team suggested the lump be removed to prevent malignant development in the future.

The Bureau of the Royal Household said that after the operation which went smoothly, Her Royal Highness was able to move her arms only slightly. The Princess also developed stomach ache and nausea due to her continuing symptoms of pancreatitis, causing her to vomit and experience high temperatures occasionally. Her Royal Highness also showed fatigue and was able to take only little food.

The royal medical team has advised that Her Royal Highness suspend official duties for a period of time to allow herself to rest and be able to take medication regularly.
