PM’s Office Minister believes criticism of draft charter won't lead to conflict

BANGKOK, 30 May 2016 (NNT) – The Minister attached to the Prime Minister's Office, Mr Suwapan Tanyuwattana, is confident that criticisms on the draft constitution will not lead to a social divide.

Minister Suwapan said the country is headed in the right direction and the nationwide public referendum is very near, adding that it is the government’s duty to coordinate the work and the efforts of all responsible agencies in order to ensure the smooth social transition of Thailand.

As for criticisms of the new charter, the minister said such critics have to date been expressing their opinions within the legal framework, which helps to prevent social segregation and political conflicts.

He went on to thank the critics for respecting the Referendum Act while urging ill-intended people to avoid breaking the law and risk facing legal action.

Mr Suwapan believes the upcoming public referendum set to take place on August 7th will go smoothly and according to plan.

Lastly, he expressed his concerns about possible attempts to distort information presented to members of the public.

It is not about conflict, it is about freedom of speech , if that is stifled how are you ever going to know what the population is thinking or even planning , conflict on the other hand should be avoided, however the draft charter has some Junta inspired characteristics, something that is well documented from past military governments..........................

Well, at least not after the first few critics win an all expense paid "vacation' to such an exotic location, that they decide to remain there... permanently.

His last statement seems differ widely with his opening statement.

Haven't there been enough warnings that criticism won't be tolerated so in theory there should be no conflict as only a few brave people night risk criticising and the aftermath of doing so.

Is this an observation or a warning?

Its a suggestion. Whenever you see the words 'believe', 'predict', 'confident that' etc etc, it's is usually because they are giving suggestions as to what the thai people should believe.

For a long time I wondered why so many things that these people say they believe are just nonsense and never come to pass. Now I know why.

The odd thing is they really do not seem to be aware that the Thai people now are a bit different to what they were 60 years ago.

freedom of speech, free access to information and the freedom to criticism is so important. If not you become the Emperor with no clothes in the Emperor's new clothes.

With that being said. What should be promoted and educated is Responsible Speech. Logical and Analytical critic of Information. All these with Good Thai Values.
