Hi guys, I have a couple of questions and was wondering if anyone could help.

In the requirements for the 1-Year Extension of Stay Based on Marriage it says:

> Security deposit of THB 400,000 in a Thai Bank Account for at least 2 months prior to the visa application

with proof being:

> Bank letter stating that the money had been deposited to the account from an overseas source for not less than 2 months.

1: Does this mean that I have to send 400K in one payment 2 months in advance? If I have been paying in 50k a month for the last year (and spending some) and the balance is over 400K is this ok?

2: Is there any way to get around the "from an overseas source?". I have some other money in Thailand that I can deposit to the account. Would I have to send it back to my British bank and then to my Thai account?

3: The alternative to the 400K is 40k a month with

> A letter from the foreigner embassy has to be shown to verify this income

What does that mean? How do I prove to the embassy what I earn and where from? Do I need to show them my british tax returns?

Thanks for your help

You must demonstrate 400K in a Thai bank. There is, as far as I am aware, no requirement to evidence where this money came from.

OR

A letter confirming monthly income can be obtained from the British Embassy (I assume you have a UK passport) which will require you to 'prove' your income before the letter will be issued Details in the link

As a matter of interest where did you find the information you quote?

depends on where u r applying your marriage visa from. For eg. I went to Samut Prakan Immigration and I was informed for 1st timer its 3 months you need to have a balance of equal or more than 400k THB in your bank account going back from the day u are applying.

This statement needs to be issued and verified by the Bank.

There r other documents needed as well.

The best is to make sure I feel is to go down to the immigration wherever that is u r going to apply and enquire b4 u go down so u don't make any wasted trips or get in touch with someone who has experience or maybe hire an agent even.

Best of luck. I am applying for my marriage visa in 2 months time.

Thanks a lot guys. Very useful info. Great to hear that I don't have to prove it came from abroad as it makes my life easier.

I will be applying for it at Chaengwattana.

I got it from siam-legal website. They looked fairly legit but I thought I better double check all the info.

Once I have the extension can I then take the money out of that account? Do I need it in there again 12 months later?

Thanks.

I you intend applying for a marriage "visa" you will not get one from an immigration office.

Visas are issued by Thai/Embassy's/Consulates.

Commercial websites are not a good source of information and often offer inaccurate 'advice'.

You will need to meet the financial requirements each year but otherwise the money is yours to use.

The police order states it is only 2 months.Three months is for a an extension based upon retirement.

I don't recall any previous post of Samut Prakan immigration wanting it to be in the bank for 3 months. Perhaps you were given the wrong info by whoever told you 3 months.

As said, money in the bank for 2 months.

Does not have to come from abroad.

You can do what you want with the money once you have the extension.

You do the same every year.
