NCPO: Gathering at Wat Phra Dhammakaya unrelated to politics

BANGKOK, 1 June 2016 (NNT) – The National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) has not taken any action against demonstrators at Wat Phra Dhammakaya as their activity is not politically motivated.

After supporters of Wat Phra Dhammakaya converged on the temple in an attempt to prevent an arrest of abbot Phra Dhammajayo, NCPO Deputy Spokesperson Col Sirichan Ngathong said only responsible authorities would be able to answer the question of whether the gathering is against the law.

Nonetheless, she noted that the NCPO has yet to order a halt to the activity as it is not related to politics. So far, officers from the Department of Special Investigation who are on duty around the site have not requested any reinforcements.

Col Sirichan also expressed confidence that the authorities will be able to resolve the issue with utmost caution and care and keep the situation from exacerbating. As for police checkpoints set up near the temple, she clarified that they are only part of the NCPO’s regular security routine.

Of course its not otherwise the authorities would lose face from their failure to do their job. Much easier to just pretend there is no problem.

What's worse, a political gathering or one to discuss perverting the course of justice ?

Well depending on who you are and what spin the govt needs to wriggle out of a tricky situation without having to make a decision and actually do something neither are a problem.

Then why did the government send army troops into the tiger temple?

Surely that's not a political protest.

Can't have it both ways!

Large group of people perverting the course of justice = not a threat to national security.

Some skinny students on a train = threat to national security.

What will this 'powerful' government do when people begin to get so fed up with them that they begin protesting on the streets again?

More drivel.

Yingluck's alleged 'crimes' were not politically motivated. Didn't stop them trying to victimise her.

"What will this 'powerful' government do when people begin to get so fed up with them that they begin protesting on the streets again?".

Well that's ezy, Suthep came up with the answer and the perfect excuse so as not to go too gaol, live fairing zone and "they ran into the bullets".

So half a dozen students riding on a train calling for independent and transparent investigation into corruption is a threat to national security so soldiers, police and charges, "AA", multiple detections abductions, beatings, harassment of activist's mother, followed by her arrest, charges threats of gaol.

but,,, if your a well connected monk with lots of money that has been stolen from people then there's not problem, he'll be arrested within his lifetime.whistling.gif

Natural born pelican, ooop's PM.

ep!

So that is cleared up, then!

What will people do , same as 1973, however the climate has changed and they wont be able to mow them down like before and hope they get away with it ,, this of course will accelerate if they start interfering with people's email and personal electronic intrusion into their lives, the ball game changes at this point.

Aren't YOU the spokesperson for the "responsible authorities"???

Not related to politics?! 55555555!

Just another day in the land of outlandish official statements..coffee1.gif

One day something is a crime and the next day it's not depending on the government's needs.

How convenient.

I wonder how the PM reacts when he goes home at night and the wife asks " good day at the office dear ? ".

She was holding Poliitical Office at the time of the alleged crimes, it was only the tip of the possible corruption during a certain parties holding of polictical power in LOS. Some of us think the Country will survive and be better off for this latest coup, they are finishing business from the 2006 version.

"Some of us think the Country will survive and be better off for this latest coup, they are finishing business from the 2006 version."

And this is what amazes me. After 13 coups where nothing changed what makes you think this time will be different? What is it about the "PM' and the rest of the junta that makes you believe this??

Many laws are subject to "interpretation".

Good people can break the laws, because they are trying to create an understanding for the good of the country.

Bad people must be jailed.

Thailand will see protests of a political kind sooner or later.

And images of how it's handled will be shown world wide.

Shoot them you might risk a military strike by UN .

Let them swell numbers be over run ?

Interesting that monks are showing the rules apply to some only

This particular temple is a cleverly disguised scam to rake in the dough from the gullible. Aside from building some grand structures what do they plan to do with the remaining billions. Be interesting to know who is truly controlling it & where it goes. The monk may be an innocent victim put up front as a cover for those behind the scenes which could be the reason that some do not want him to face questioning as they fear names will come out. Even if not innocent he will surely not have masterminded the scheme on his own.

It would appear that the opposition to the current repressive military junta ruled government have finally got a common cause to rally around, along with a fortified "Ground Zero" in Wat Dhammakaya.

No way out for Prajuth on this one.
