Ombudsman investigates Bangyai-Kanchanaburi motorway project

NAKHON PATHOM, 2 June 2016 (NNT) - The Office of the Ombudsman has sent a fact-finding team to Nakhon Pathom province in response to complaints about the questionable management of the Bang Yai-Kanchanaburi motorway project.

Deputy-Secretary of the Office of the Ombudsman Tavin Inchamnong disclosed that the team visited the subdistricts of Don Fag and Lan Tag Fah in the district of Nakhon Chaisi. Mr. Tavin also met with locals from the districts of Nakhon Chaisi and Mueang Nakhon Pathom, who spoke of the project's dubious practices. According to the Ombudsman official, a number of residents have doubts as to why the motorway has as many as three over-sized rest areas. Many locals also expressed dissatisfaction with the eviction compensation offered by the Department of Highways, saying a rate of 600 baht per square wah, or 150 baht per square meter, is unfair.

The locals also complained that they had never been invited to any public hearing on the project. The residents want the Department of Highways to review the project and carry out a new environmental impact assessment, which incorporates the ideas and feedback of stakeholders, as well as come up with an acceptable solution for those affected.

Mr. Tavin conceded that within the proper legal framework, the government could use its authority to develop the country. However, he said the affected people need to receive fair treatment at the same time. The probe is expected to yield results in two months.

Another farce most likely...management structures with dubious and ulterior motives...just normal business practice in Thailand with Government funds.

The land prices are definitely undervalued....Bt 240K/rai!
