BANGKOK: The National Legislative Assembly endorsed by 122 votes to pass the first reading of a bill seeking to establish the Ministry of Digital for Economic and Social Affairs.

Information and Communications Technology Minister Uttama Saowanayont said the bill is expected to be promulgated mid-year and meant to support and promote digital development and development of new innovations in the country.

The government will set a target for the development of digital economy within 20 years in four stages: development of the structure of internet service to cover the entire country and the service will be easily accessible by members of the public; the public can access to and utilise technology to boost their capability and business development; development of human resources to be skilful in technology and safety in the use of internet and technology.

better late than never clap2.gif

It's already a done deal.

Witness the absence of 78 MP's from parliament.

I think better never.

This makes the computer crimes act even more draconian than it already is. This is all about this junta seizing full control of the internet to snoop on everything we say and do. It has zip to do with a digital economy. In fact it is a pretty big nail in any digital economies coffin.

Last night and today I cannot even get decent dialup speeds.

Ministry of Digital for Economic and Social Affairs.

Rolls right off the tongue  Seriously though, that ''for'' jolts you more than a pothole on a rainy day.

From another news report...

The new ministry will have the administrative scope to plan, promote, develop and implement activities related to a digital society and economy. The agency will have its own ministerial and permanent secretary offices and also supervise the National Statistics Office, the Thai Meteorological Department and the new office of the Digital Commission for Social Affairs and the Economy.
It is unclear how this new Ministry will overlap with many existing ones, like the MICT?
The NLA has enacted a staggering amount of new legislation, typically with votes of 180-0, with little/no debate, and no public consideration. Some of this legislation is, quite frankly, amazing in scope and it will shape the country for the next few generations (subsequent coups will not necessarily affect laws already enacted). I would imagine that if one of the previously elected governments had enacted 10% of this legislation, the whistle-blowing, hand-clapping yellow horde would have had an apoplectic fit.

Generation Y kids will end up in paranoia epidemic If their internet slows down.

No need as General Prayuth has spoken already. Why do we need to waste time?

The Thai Meteorological Department?

It's raining bits and bytes, folks.
