Hello..

I met this fellow who has a non imm O-A visa. It's good for a year, no need to visit immigration every three months. What exactly is this visa? Thanks

It is a one year extension of stay for retirement obtained at a Consulate in the persons home country. The same documents, plus a police report, for over 50 retirement as required by immigration is provided to the Consulate who then issue the non immigrant O-A (A stands for approved by immigration) visa. On entry into Thailand the holder receives a one year permitted to stay stamp.

If the holder of a non-OA visa stays in Thailand longer than 90 days at a time, does he have to report his address to Immigration? Or does this requirement only apply to persons on an extension of permission to stay?

OK, thanks for the info, I will tell him that he needs to give his address to Immigration....

He should have been told about it when he obtained the O-A visa but good to remind him in any case. Below is the Royal Thai Embassy, Washington DC information for O-A address reporting:

3. Recommendations for the Alien While Staying in the Kingdom.

3.1 When completing the stay of 90 days in the Kingdom, the alien shall report to the competent authority and repeat it every 90 days with the immigration officer in the alien's residence area, or report to the police station in the alien's residence area if there is no immigration control there.

(In order to report to the competent authority by mail, the alien shall do as follows:

- The Report Form (To Mo 47) together with a copy of the passport pages showing the alien's photo, personal details, and the latest arrival visa stamp as well as a self addressed evelop with postage affixed, shall be forwarded, by 7 days before the due date, by acknowledgement of receipt mail to the Immigration Bureau, Sathon Tai Road, Sathon District, Bangkok 10120.

- In the case of conducting any following reports, the Reply Form for the previous report shall be enclosed as well.)

3.2 At the end of the one-year stay, the alien who wishes to extend his/her stay shall submit a request for the extended period at the Immigration Bureau with documented evidence of money transfer, or a deposit account in the Kingdom, or an income certificate, at the amount of no less than 800,000 Baht, or an income certificate plus a deposit account at the total amount of no less than 800,000 Baht a year.

3.3 If the alien's spouse wishes to extend his/her stay as well, the marriage certificate shall be produced.

Anyone intending to stay over 90 days is required (btw, there is a leeway of 7 days prior to/post staying longer than 90 days) to submit a TM 47 form to notify Immigration:

TM47_FORM_FOR_ALIEN_TO_NOTIFY_OF_STAYING_LONGER_THAN_90_DAYS.pdf

In addition to the fundamental purpose of notifying staying beyond 90 days, other information is required, including when you last entered the Kingdom, Arrival Card #, your current address etc...
