webfact Posted June 12, 2016 Share Posted June 12, 2016 Public Health Ministry warns against eating half-cooked porkBANGKOK: -- The Ministry of Public Health has warned people who love to eat food made of half-cooked or undercooked pork of the risk of suffering from sudden hearing loss as a result of infection from streptococcus suis bacteria.Since the beginning of this year until June 3, 122 cases of streptococcus suis infection were reported in 19 provinces and eight of them have died.People infected with the bacteria will have high fever, severe headache, hearing impairment, muscles pain, diarrhea and breathing difficulty. Mortality rate from blood poisoning ranges from 5-20 percent.People who work in pig farms or in slaughter houses are at risk of contracting the bacteria from pigs. They should wash their hands or take a shower after being exposed to pork meat for a long time and pig farms should be clean, said the Public Health Ministry .The ministry also advised consumers to be selective in buying pork in fresh markets or in department stores to make sure that the meat looks fresh and does not smell. Meanwhile the rest of the world teaches their children about this in school. What they fail to tell in this report is that good pork is not red, it's pink in color. Red pork is a sign it has been at room temperature for too long. And yet most Thai people opts to buy pork in the market where the pork has been left out in the open since the early morning. Monkeyrobot Posted June 13, 2016 Share Posted June 13, 2016 I don't understand when Farangs in this country order a hamburger med/ rare or rare. A piece of Steak ok no problem, but when you order a burger and the meat is minced you don't know what's in it , maybe some pork left over in the mince machine or beef out of date and the bacteria grows very fast in minced products. The say sausages is like a lucky dip with what's in them but at least people don't order them half cooked . Suk Suk for my snags and burgers and medium for my steaks. Big risk, as is raw prawns with lime juice. But maybe drinking Lao Khow with the meal kills the bacteria ? Well, it could be that either you are way too old for them to have learned about this? Or you are starting your day with too many beers to remember that far back? Or, you possible were sleeping in that particular lesson......Food health and safety was always part of at least one years class during my generation.
