VANCOUVER: -- A Fraser Valley man who nearly died in a traffic accident in Thailand is now recovering in a Vancouver hospital.

David Connelly was hit by a dump truck while he was on a motorcycle in Thailand and suffered a broken back, broken pelvis and broken shoulder. His prognosis worsened because there was a severe shortage of his blood type in Southeast Asia.

Connelly’s siblings, including Canadian author Karen Connelly, started an online blood drive and asked strangers in Thailand to donate to their brother. Within weeks he was stable enough to be flown home for treatment on a specialized flight.

A good news story on a gloomy news, Monday morning.

Hope he makes a full recovery and never rides another motor bike in Thailand!

Not to put a 2 fine line on it Vancouver is a great place to recuperate, generally at the beaches , board walk cafes or up in the Rockies, however with a broken back , pelvis and shoulder and just to be nice, ( if you get the drift ) , a Vancouver hospital is probably the best place to be , all the best for a quick recovery.......................coffee1.gif

Good to see he's recovering well. There will still be year(s) of rehab he has to look forward to.

Good to see him recovering.

But did he have a Thai motorcycle licsence? Any previous experience riding a motorbike? Many of these farangs don't in Thailand and are a real menace on the roads.

Luckily he only hurt himself and not an innocent Thai going about their daily lives.

Insurance?

Has Brit Simon Wellings come forward to police yet? It has now been a month since his Benz ploughed into two Thai ladies killing them in Chiangmai Mai.

You want to blame the victim ???

Luckily he only hurt himself ?

Thats some pretty impressive 'Thai-Apologist-BS' right there.....

No travel insurance, that's always a mistake for holidaymakers.

i doubt 99% of tourists on motorcycles would be covered anyway because they probably dont have the correct motorcycle licence back home. in the UK a car licence covers you to drive a 50cc scooter..... not too many of them here.
