Government releases a video detailing Sokha’s sex scandal case



PHNOM PENH: -- The Cambodian government has last week released a 30-minute, documentary-style video detailing Kem Sokha’s alleged sex scandal so the public can judge by themselves whether the case against the opposition leader is justified or not, the Phnom Penh Post Online reported on Monday.

The video was released on Saturday and set to Cambodian singer Voy Vanneth’s song, Whose Fault? It also used an interview with the Justice Ministry spokesman Kim Santepheap and TV clips of Prime Minister Hun Sen and head of the goverhment’s Human Rights Committee Keo Remy to lay out a timeline of the events surrounding Mr Sokha’s case.

Tith Sothea, spokesman of the Council of Ministers’ Press and Quick Reaction Unit, said the video was created to highlight people’s rights and rule of law in Cambodia, so the public can judge by themselves whether Sokha’s case is legitimate or not.

Reacting to a reporter’s question about the video, CNRP spokesman Yim Sovann refused to comment on the issue, saying it was a personal matter.

Last Friday, the Foreign Ministry released a statement in responses to concerns expressed by UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon in a recent phone call to Foreign Minister Prak Sokhon.

The statement dismissed the widely-held interpretation that Sokha’s case was political. It maintained that the court’s actions against Sokha were justified given the fact that he had been caught re-handed refusing to honour court summonses.
